no, it is back in fashion. Montreal is like the English stronghold in Quebec :p

We're taking the island over! Heh.

Well, it's back in fashion in provincial government anyway. The protest you linked speaks to what many French and English in Quebec think about it, and seems to be the view of the Canadians I work with. I remember the late 80s/early 90s though. Back when certain people wanted Quebec to leave, back when the term "Bonjour hello" at a Montreal shop could get you kicked out. Now no one cares about "Bonjour hello."

Don't really care for the agenda there - "we can't be bothered teaching drivers to look where they are going, or holding them responsible for the concequences of their own kinetic energy, so we're gonna put the onus on their potential victims to stay out of their way".

Next campaign will be about street crime - "stay off the streets in case someone stabs you".

Law of tonnage. 'I was correct in the eyes of the law' makes a terrible epitaph.

So there _will_ be a campaign telling people to get off the streets, because if they get stabbed to death by a mugger or a terrorist it will be their own fault for being out there?

The college town where I went to university did erect fences in the sidewalks and medians to prevent non-crosswalk crossing because some students, probably drunk, did get run over and killed by vehicles.

Due to attorneys and due process, the judicial system usually just gives slap on the wrists to bad drivers.

Plenty of reason to enforce laws against stabbing people, doesn't mean we can't tell people 'be careful about what alleys you walk through'. Couple years back I almost ran over a stroller someone was pushing because they came out from behind a semi at a crosswalk that crossed a 35mph major road. No indication that he even noticed me. I didn't really see him and barely braked in time, like less than two feet. He didn't even turn his head, much less slowed down. Had I murdered an infant that day, I'd be at fault, but he'd be responsible. Watch the fucking road before you cross it like your were told as a goddamned child, I say.

"Please stick to crosswalks so you don't die" is an agenda? Drivers can be looking where they are going and still hit a pedestrian who isn't giving a shit.

But whatever. Your aversion to Montrealers preferring fewer people getting killed/crippled in their streets is noted.

Anyway.

Really?

More to the point is to dissuade people from stepping in front of a couple tons of moving steel and plastic. There are physics involved here, that are apparently beyond your grasp.

Wait, are you saying pedestrians jaywalking is the driver's fault?
