You're giving people way too much credit. They're not hitting that puddle mindlessly because they don't realize what could happen, they hit it intentionally because they knew what would happen.

And the video lends weight to my point, not yours. Those guys didn't catch an inadvertent splash, they focused on people getting drenched and they got their rocks off laughing at it. Drivers do the same.

It probably had condensation or water on it and when it was drop, got enveloped causing the explosion. I am working on an aluminum smelting project right now and just went through a bunch of training. Water and molten metal is not a good combination.
