In this case, I'm not really sure why. He's right, in this category Apple led the way with personal device (and thus personal information) security. Notice that Apple is also not an ad network.
I'm a big fan of Google, and even Microsoft for that matter, and for the longest time I was a strict anti-Apple everything... shit I'm pretty sure I invented reasons on the fly for why macOS (nee OS X, and System # before that). Partly just stupid juvenile pettiness and I grew out of that.
Apple has an obvious issue with cost/price, but the market is obviously just fine with that. Expensive but the demand supports it, economics 101 at work.
Back to security though, Apple has had incredible success with their security measures unless I missed something?
However one thing that should be noted is that Apple, like every other American company, willingly complies with any lawful data request for law enforcement purposes, but they have obvious limits -- like not destroying every security feature they've put in place. They only give data they can actually access without breaking their own encryption, and only when there is a court-approved warrant.
