Sad actually what's the difference?

hunt30n-8-web.jpg

Besides the obvious difference in species?

Other than moose not being critically endangered, I'd say location, the government you're dealing with, levels of conservation, number of people you have to pay, oh and taste.

I'm not sure you realize how much meat is on one moose, but I'll go out on a limb and assume you agree that Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber were out on a safari hunt for kicks, trophy hunting. Something you won't hear me defend. FWIW in Maine you only get to hunt moose if you win a moose permit. My dad played 26 years straight and never won once. Of all the New England states I don't think any benefit from moose as much as Maine does. As others have mentioned, it can be a sizeable portion of the protein needed by a low income family. It's fair to mention as well many states have local charities where you can donate your game to feed homeless/emergency/etc shelters, as well as charity food reserves for the needy.

I've wanted to go to Africa, but I'd be carrying a camera more than anything. If I put the lead to anything it will be an antelope or something else in quantity for those communal dinners at the lodge. Guys who want to kill elephants, rhinos, etc, they make me sick.

Hunters can actually save a lot of money on food by eating what they kill. It's a non-trivial amount for a lot of people who might be living somewhat close to the edge. A quick search says that he'll get about 52% of the weight of that moose in usable meat. That's hundreds of pounds of meat for the cost of a weekend, ammo, and knife work.

Killing inedible rare apex predators because they're exotic is just crappy.

Well said!

At the risk of getting too topical in a humor thread, I just want to add that I don't know a single moose hunter who doesn't own at least one big chest freezer. On the flip side, hunters like the Brothers Dump are out for the conquest, and I'd be surprised as hell to hear they dress their own game, let alone consume it.

To the people who think modern hunting is some kind of barbaric holdover, that it couldn't possibly be for the consumption of tasty, healthy meats -- try some elk and get back to me.

Maybe he's just taking a really deep nap? This is what I've said to my wife when she's sad because there's roadkill at the side of the road.

Or maybe they're not posing with it but engaging in some kind of wildlife preservation scheme by helping move it to a protected site?

Or maybe you could try and actually find this shit out for yourself:

“Trump Jr trophy hunt” would have sufficed but I guess you wanted to go above and beyond.

Kinda hard to “find this shit out for” myself when I don’t recognize the men and I wasn’t given the context to search for until I asked. Obviously, you expected me to know who that was. I didn’t. This only validates my request for context despite your attempts to twist it into some insult against me. I genuinely thought that the guy on the left might be my roommate’s brother for a moment there.

...and, yes, I’ve seen enough nature documentaries to know that “schemes” like you describe are common enough that it was entirely reasonable to consider the possibility when it was just an image of two unknown men in a bloodless photo.

Frankly I didn't believe that you couldn't recognise Trump's sons or somehow be unaware of when that photo was in the news, so I 'went above and beyond' because I fully expected a typical Trumpeteer "fake news" bleat in response to anything less.

Upload + google image search, assuming of course that you somehow missed it in the news when these photos of Trump's spawn did the rounds and that you're unable to recognise an obvious hunter trophy pose photo when you see one (google for 'hunter pose kill' if you don't believe me), let alone the idea that someone sufficiently interested in wildwife preservation would attempt to pick up an animal of that weight in that way when there's another guy right beside them to help carry it, or the even more freaking obvious point that they would use equipment to transport it to whatever vehicle they've got for the purpose.

I mean, to be fair, that's a pretty damned popular image at this point. I don't even watch the news on TV, just vaguely peruse the internet, and I knew who that was and that it was legitimate.

Did you know the Titanic also sank? And the Hindenburg burned up?

Looks very similar to a picture my older brother made when he was in the navy in the '80s, holding a sedated baby lion. From what I understand, sailors took turns holding the lion and getting their pictures taken.

I've seen lots of TV appearances by the Trump troop, but I didn't recognize them in that picture. Looked like a couple of dudebros.

Dealing with this since last year... 8 year olds hear from classmates that he's not real then they get this idea that we are trying to pull a fast one! W T F !!!!
Same with my 9 year old, still wants to believe but kids around him keeps saying that he's not real, increasing his skepticism.

8-9 is about the time reason starts to kick in, following the thought process a bit further. When my older finally talked about it last year, he was 10, and he knew....but I told him the idea of santa is real, and the time of year is for what santa represents. i think he was actually relieved some old dude wasnt breaking into our house to eat our cookies.
