I could have sworn that growing up it was SOP for former presidents to stay out of things. Fair warning that Clinton is the first former president from my generation, so I could be wrong.

From my understanding it is somewhat of a tradition, but one that has been frequently violated in the past.

Not that I remember, but Reagan also had another Republican president following him who was his old vice president. Probably not going to criticize him that much no matter what.

Also, as dank mentioned Reagan was increasingly impaired in fairly short order after leaving office so I doubt he was involved in much at all after Democrats took over. (according to wiki he started displaying overt symptoms sometime in 1992 or 1993 and his last public speech was in February 1994, roughly 1 year after Clinton came into office)

It was later revealed that Reagan's altimeters was progressing rapidly at the end of his tenure. People didn't talk about altimeters during that period so He & Nancy mostly kept to themselves.
I remember him attending some events but they were things that all the former presidents would go to, I don't remember him speaking much when he left office.

I always forget about HW 😳 I consider him a right wing mulligan.

I have been racking my brain trying to remember listening to a Reagan speech after he left office and I can't think of a single one I heard or remember. I remember listening to Michael Reagan on talk radio but that would have been around 97 or 98? I do remember Michael talking then about his dad not doing well.

OK thanks for the history refresher. Now lets get back to arguing!

For those of us that do not live in or near the sunshine state, it is a reasonable assumption to make. An incorrect one, but still a reasonable one considering the baggage that the Bush surname carries with it. If he hadn't been using his first name in a similar manner, any campaign adviser would probably tell him to avoid connections to his brother.

But you are correct, he has been using that terrible typographic logo for some time.

W has maintained a remarkably low-profile for a still relatively-young former two term president. Whether that's because the RNC instructed him to maintain a low profile or he simply wants to kick back and relax is unknown.

I think he'll have a hard time following in Carter's footsteps. Carter really didn't do much of anything good or bad while in office, or at least his presidency isn't very memorable. In contrast, W got tens of thousands of Americans killed or seriously injured and greatly contributed to destabilizing the Middle East. The effects of his time in office are still being felt today, and the mess in the Middle East isn't over yet.
