Honestly, they should just close down all the shows, fire Conan, he's a leftist twat, give Leno a car show where he can talk about cars and the shit ton of cars in his garage, publicize the shit out of that.

This is quite possibly the dumbest comment in this entire thread. If anything, Conan completely shies away from any sort of real political commentary. He takes cheap shots at any and all politicians, just like a late night comedian should. I mean really, have you ever watched the Daily Show? Can you even compare Conan to that on any level?

I agree with whoever else said it, I think the best slot for Conan would be Letterman's time slot, network, and audience. Of course, this requires Letterman to actually leave, but I don't see that happening and I couldn't see CBS bumping Letterman for Conan. Other than that, not sure what the best option would be, but I know I appreciated Conan alot more on the 12:30 timeslot, when he was more free to do his own thing. Vomitting Kermit and the Masturbating Bear just wouldn't fly at 11:30

There are plenty of funny people who can host these shows. Conan isn't royalty. He had his shot and his ratings are terrible, completely terrible. Leno had really great rating, the best of any late night show. I like Conan, but if he can't get the job done make way for someone who can. Again, these people aren't royalty, they aren't entitled to jobs at NBC, CBS or anywhere else. If you can do the job you get paid, if you can't, you get bumped.

ok lets put leno back on his old timeslot and put conan on at 10... see how Lenos ratings workout for him.

I just don't see that happening. Leno was given the 10 o'clock show because he had excellent TTS ratings and there's a good chance if he moved back to 11:30 he would have excellent ratings again. Conan's TTS ratings are abysmal, so giving him another time slot doesn't make sense, what makes sense is to move Leno back to the slot where his ratings were good and move Conan back to the spot where his ratings were good, or dump Conan.

I'm just saying conans ratings might be the result of Lenos suckage at the 10'oclock timeslot. He never had a chance to have his show come up first. Comparing Leno of old to Conan now is apples to oranges. We'd have to see what kind of ratings Conan could pull without Leno in the way. Or vice versely have Conan come on at 10 and see how Lenos ratings do then.

NBC set him up to fail miserably.. not completely his fault.

I don't think it's an apples to oranges comparison at all. The audience is the same and most people who watch TTS flip on the TV during the news and then catch TTS, they weren't watching TV at the 10 o'clock hour - which is why NBC could justify putting another talk show at 10 - different audience. Most folks watching prime time TV watch their show, watch the news and turn it off.

If the audience is the same, then why is Lenos ratings now at 10 so much worse than his ratings back then? Certainly, more people are awake at 10 to see his show.

you really think so?

Conan's ratings in his time slot are a far cry from what Leno was getting. he's also getting beat by Letterman, which by and large, Leno never did.

after seeing his performance, I wouldn't worry about competing against Conan if I were NBC.

personally, I stopped watching Conan in the early 00's when I realized that he did the exact same jokes every single night... I haven't watched any late night shows in forever except the occasional snippet of Craig Ferguson (because he's on channel 2 and that's the default channel my tv turns onto). I'm just going by the ratings.

Leno followed Carson who had a cult-like following(deservedly so)
Conan followed an unfunny turd with a big chin...

You misunderstood.

The audience for TTS is the same now as it was a year ago when Leno had it. The same people are watching that time slot. The TTS audience is typically different from the prime-time audience, so the fact that Leno is first now at 10 doesn't mean anything. Prime-time people click off after the news, TTS people click on during the news, hence, they weren't watching prime time TV on any channel, they weren't in front of the TV.

As for the 10 o'clock time slot, there are too many other dramas on other networks which people expect during that slot for a talk show to do well, NBC should have known this, but they aren't real bright.

That's your opinion, his ratings during his time on TTS speak for themselves and don't agree with you. He has been the number one rated late night show since the late 90s.

People seem to forget that when Leno took over for Johnny his ratings sucked balls, it took years for Leno to climb up the ratings ladder, and political jokes due to elections probably had something to do with it. He might not fair as well nowadays.

Leno's ratings the first year were poor, the next three years he had very good ratings and by 1997 was the top watched late night show, a title he held until he left the show.

Actually it was the Hugh Grant "What were you thinking" incident that put him at #1.

Leno comments on the rumor from last night:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KATIE COURIC, IT'S HER BIRTHDAY TODAY. SHE LEFT NBC FOR ANOTHER NETWORK. I HAVE TO GIVE HER CALL TO SEE HOW THAT IS WORKING OUT.

AS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD, THERE IS A RUMOR FLOATING AROUND THAT WE WERE CANCELED. I HEARD IT COMING IN THIS MORNING ON THE RADIO. SO FAR NO ONE HAS SAID ANYTHING TO ME. BUT KEV, IF WE DID GET CANCELED IT WILL GIVE US TIME TO DO SOME TRAVELING. I UNDERSTAND THAT FOX IS BEAUTIFUL THIS TIME OF YEAR.

I DON’T THINK THERE IS ANY TRUTH TO THE RUMORS. SEE, IT’S ALWAYS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT NBC ONLY CANCELS YOU WHEN YOU'RE IN FIRST PLACE. SO WE ARE FINE. WE ARE OK.

YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED? NBC FOUND FOUR GUNS IN MY LOCKER. I WAS SUSPENDED. (KEVIN SAYS, “I’M GLAD THEY DIDN’T FIND THEM IN MY LOCKER.”) WE WILL KEEP FOLLOWING THIS STORY.

I still have a hard time believing people find Conan funny. He's just a big doofus and not funny at all. Not saying Leno is hilarious or anything but I stopped watching NBC after the news once they put Conan on there. Bu I don't watch Jay's earlier show either.

Conan has a younger audience and a different sense of humor (he is more lively and interesting to watch IMO) so not everyone thinks he's funny. I think he would be good on a Comedy Central talk show :D
