Some Conan fans are spamming Jay's Facebook wall. Childish. :(

Jay wrote an open letter explaining his position.

You're not one who should be talking, calling other people childish.

I stopped reading after he tried being funny by taking Conan's start, and then actually said that he's being put back into late night against his will. What the fuck!?!

Hmm, I'm kinda dubious on it being from Jay, looks like its someone on that site making it up to be funny. Might be wrong, but I don't have time to read it yet.

Fuck Jay - if he changed his mind about leaving The Tonight Show, then he should have made his protest about it years ago before Conan took over - be a man about it instead of being the same passive aggressive worm he was when he had his attack dog manager working to push Johnny Carson out of the show...

Fritzo already owned you, but yes he did. I know because I watched Jay religiously and when he announced it I was bummed out. If Jay had never announced it, Conan NEVER would have got offered the Tonight Show slot. NBC didn't want Conan there, it's just when they thought Jay was leaving he was really the only logical choice for successor. And once the contract to Conan has been put into place NBC had screwed themselves and Leno had to go.

He did not own me in any way. NBC was always worried about Conan wanting to leave. Here is the article I remember reading in the New York times.

So they were more worried about losing Conan than their top rated dude? Yeah that makes a ton of sense. I'm sure they didn't want to lose Conan but if it came down to it Leno is way more valuable. You said Leno never said he was going to retire, that's exactly what he said. So you were owned, I'm not exactly sure how you can see it any other way. Fritzo's link said Leno was going to retire, it was old as shit, you said otherwise ----> you were owned.

He did say stuff years ago lol. He did not ever want to leave the tonight show. NBC basically signed a contract with Conan and Jay got left out in the cold. That episode showing them buddy buddy was just something set up by NBC to make it look like they were all kissy kissy about it.

You obviously weren't following things as closely was I was. It was heavily discussed on the blogs about what Leno was going to do and people close to Leno at the time told newspapesr leno were angry that NBC had signed the contract with Conan.

Bottom line was NBC was not thinking straight when they signed Conan on. I can understand how you might have seen it because you just randomly turned on the Tonight show one day and saw Leno saying he was going to retire, but if you had followed the blogs back then to get the true story, you would have seen that it the episode was just a skit arranged by NBC.

So if I understand you correctly, what you're saying is Leno was never really going to and did not want to retire? And that NBC wanted him out so they could replace him with someone who doesn't pull a fraction of his ratings, and probably would be a flop at 11:35. Because they found Conan more important than Leno? Leno was going to retire at one point, but he changed his mind and by the time he did it was already too late. Leno probably was mad that NBC offered Conan a contract, but they only offered it because Leno had stated publicly he was going to retire in '09. If Leno hadn't said that Conan never would have gotten offered any contract. And Leno would still be the host of the tonight show.

Plus is NY Times article was Feb 2004, and Leno announced retirement in Sept 2004.

Kimmel on Leno's 10 at 10:

# [Asked by Leno what the best prank he ever pulled was] "The best prank I ever pulled was I told a guy that—five years from now—I'm gonna give you my show. And then when the five years came, I gave it to him, and then I took it back almost instantly."
# [Asked by Leno if he ever orders anything off of the TV] "Like NBC ordered your show off the TV?"

Kimmel is one of the least funny dudes on TV, love how Leno doesn't give a shit though. They had to know having Jimmy on would be nothing but him throwing shit at Leno to try and make him look like the bad guy here.

Considering how self absorbed the guy has to be to pull these shenanigans in the first place, it's not surprising that he doesn't care how people react to it.

Conan, Letterman and Kimmel are all ripping into this guy. He has the balls to make fun of himself. If it was me the last thing I'd want to do is highlight what people have been saying about me. I'm sure he cares, but what can he do? NBC execs have already came out saying Leno didn't ask then to shit can Conan. Conan was offered a time slot, and he refused. Leno was offered his old show back, and somehow he's a bad guy for accepting the offer? If Leno had left NBC Conan still would have gotten shit canned from The Tonight Show. SO Leno said fuck it, and is making fun of himself as the bad guy. He owes Conan nothing, it's not like he stabbed a good friend in the back, he took a great offer from his network. If the roles had been reserved, Conan would have done the same damn thing. Anyone who wouldn't in this case is a dip shit.

I know you like smell of Leno's junk, but nobody else can understand why NBC is so terrified to let him go. It's just like the Hitler video said, he must be able to summon a demon that will eat NBC's balls if they try to fire him.

Yeah, except Conan pretty much did get that offer and didn't take it. Maybe you haven't been keeping up with things, but Conan was offered the 12:05 time slot and refused, partly because he didn't want to bump Jimmy Fallon.

I always thought Leno was totally not funny but I would watch it occasionally when he had a guest that I was interested in.

Is Hulu not loading videos for anyone else? I tried Conan, figured those are getting hammered, but tried some others and all say they can't be loaded.

The only mistake they made was getting rid of Leno in the first place. His show was number one for 15 years and they pushed him out.

Conan was better in the late night spot after Leno.

Anyways this is a big win for everyone, Letterman, Leno and Conan will all be on at 11.35pm....watch whichever one you want.
