how is the state of the drivers now?

no issues with vista?

Ill have to check, oh wait, I dont run Vista.

Drivers have been pretty solid since release. One of the 97.xx versions was a little flaky but the ones I am running now have been great.

Of course the funny thing is since I got the card, I started playing WoW again which has 2002 graphics requirements :D

But FlightSimX looks pretty with all the bells and whistles turned up at 1600X1200. And Counterstrike Source with everything maxed actually looks tits. Multiple Smoke grenades== no problem to render. And the color saturation of the 8800 series compared to the 6800 series is like night and day. Beautiful card I tell you.

Amen! I've used that same philosophy since the 3dfx days. I could care less about branding, the best i can afford is all that matters. This fanboy stuff is silly.

and glad to see Genx87, nvidia 8800 drivers are improving

won't be long now to have them fully mature for Vista too
[probably long before we see r600]

LOL! Interesting theory. Geeks aren't always into sports so perhaps they route for other things that people would normally find odd? Seems plausible to me!

I am a former ATi fanboi. I own cards from both companies but my current high-end is from nVidia, and I have no complaints I guess. But I think NVDA's CEO is an arrogant SOB, and I KNOW that an NVDA monopoly would suck for everyone. So here's to routing for the underdog...and love them or hate them...ATI has made some excellent contributions to the field.

What are the changes we'll see a mystery driver from Nvidia the launch day of the R600 that will fix the majority of the 8800 series problems right now and also give a performance boost?

Anyone wanna bet?

I love how everyone is a genius after the fact.

Also to those 'gamers' who say stuff like,"You morons! There are no DX10 games out there!"... I say please go back to playing Hexen. DX10 cards are also the DX9 leaders. Games today like Vegas, Double Agent, NWN2 and even Oblivion don't run properly on anything below and 8800. Some of those games like Vegas don't even run well on the 8800!

First of all, Hexen is totally awesome. I loved that game.

Second of all, your last point it definately valid. I don't even plan to buy vista at all (definately not anytime soon...I'm mulling over the idea of reinstalling 2000) but these cards have me interested because their DX9 performance is really great.

As for everything else, Welcome to the video forum! :p

I know... Hexen rocked. I was just making a joke since it is pretty old heh. :p I wish they'd make another Hexen.

Not to nitpick or anything, but the expression is actually "This is the last straw!"

hahahaha...

This is pretty sad, I think u need to put down the keyboard and get a girlfriend seriously!

Honestly if I had the choice between a hot chick and the R600, I'd take the R600 as it stands.

Why? Let me give you a list:

1. I'd be the first and only person to have used that R600. Most hot girls today have already been around the block a few hundred times.

2. The R600 would give me a slight increase in my electricity bill, and probably require some maintainence in terms of cleaning and driver downloading. The hot girl would need constant attention and would need a lot more money to be maintained.

3. The R600 wouldn't bleed once a month and then bitch at me.

4. The R600 won't ask me if it is fat.

5. In a year when the next hot thing comes around, I can sell my R600 and get me a new model.

Don't they have a class action lawsuit against them because of driver issues? I think if they had a fix ready and tested they wouldn't be holding onto just to release when ATI came out with their stuff.

Yea me too, i ditched my noisey half broke X1900XT for a nice 7900GTO, performance wont be as good (not that i will notice, ill never notice the slight drop) but its quiet and i know it isnt a power hog. Also more of my games just seem to run better on nvidia hardware, simcity 4 being one of them.

On an unrelated note, you can actually ask the mods to change your name and they will probably oblige. So you can no longer seem to be an ati fanboy and you can be called a more up to date card lol :p

the nvidia drivers look to be fixed *long* before r600 sees the light of day ... i would have said "you're right" if the r600 launched on schedule.

Looked to be fixed and being fixed are two different things.

And I agree that fool that picked a videocard over a hot chick has issues clearly.

And a hot chick doesn't always = a goal digger or expensive to keep!

It could also be AMD 's complete platform launch , countering Nv's claim not to use AMD chips with 8800's...

Well, I have a friend on Xfire. He was all ready up to go to Frys and buy a X1950 XT. I on the other hand convinced him to go with a 8800GTS 340 for $299. Now last nite, him and I were playing Doom 3 multiplayers, and he couldnt believe how much smoother it was than his old 7600GT. He just keeps saying....Thanks...this f'n card is Golden.

BTW, to the person ( forget now, cannot find the post ) that mentioned I could change my user name by pm'ming the mods...thanks....I did just that. Im no longer X80064 8)

Reminds me of awhile ago when software would mysteriously run better on platforms with Intel CPU's.... From what I remember, an investigation into this found that Intel's compilers would add special "code" so it would run more efficiently on Intel cpu's as opposed to AMD cpu's... :)

Do you actually play games on Vista?

Despite your prophecies of doom, the drivers have een getting better.
As are ATi's, the difference is monthly WHQL drivers from ATi for all major Windows versions while it's been almost two months since we saw an XP driver from nVidia.

There is also no indication from nVidia when we can expect a new one and no feedback form for XP, unlike ATi that have had a Catalyst feedback form since 2002.

The G80 is a sweet piece of hardware but nVidia's driver support has been shocking, especially for XP.

Yea, I told him he would see a significant upgrade to the 1950XT also. But the more he reviewed the GTS card, after I showed him several sites...he said he basically couldnt pass it up. Im ordering mine on Monday, im gonna opt for the 640 version from Evga. Cant wait, this will be my first Nvidia card....well....just my first one...8)
