Its rare that I dislike a food to the point I refuse to eat it. I pretty much like everything and even if i'm not a huge fan, I still usually will eat it.
That was, until tonight. My wife made brussels sprouts. I almost vomited. WTF - They were HORRIBLE.
Am I alone here? I guess it had to happen some day, something I truly HATE, but wow, that was bad.
Damn. Can I come over for dinner?Originally posted by: Lola
I love them and it is because of the way I make them. I steam them a bit first then I sautee/fry them in part olive oil part butter, with fresh garlic. I cook them until they are crispy yet still tender in the inside. Lots of rich flavor. You can also sprinkle fresh parmisan cheese on top while they are still hot.

Anybody tried Durian?

That's probably the worst thing I've ever tried.
Sounds delicious. Can I come over for some?Originally posted by: Lola

Noooo! They can be absolutly amazing. Most folks only think of artichoke "pickled" in heavy oil or in spinach/artichoke dip.
I steam them (hint: Add some slices of lemon to the steaming water and they will not turn brown.
Steam until tender. "rip" the meat off of each leaf and enjoy. I like to make them a bit unhealthy by melting butter with whatever herbs are around and some salt. If done right, they are not bitter at all. When you get to the heart, it takes some work to properly carve it, but when you do, it is so meaty and almost "nutty" tasting.
You could also make a dip by greek yoguart, lemon and roasted garlic.

I'm not a big fan of them either. But a fair coating of salt really helps, for me at least. But maybe that's because I would suck salt right out of the shaker if it wasn't seen as a "bad idea".
mmm... salt...
This link might explain the objectionable part. It appears to be sulphur created when cooked too long.
