It's not borderline anything. It's check fraud and theft.
And it isn't the amount that matters either, especially considering that they are probably doing this hundreds of times.

Where did you get the idea that waiters and bartenders only work for tips here?
They are required to be paid minimum wage here. Tips are part of that calculation, but they are always paid at least minimum wage.

When the tip is expected or applied FOR me is when I don't tip AT ALL.
Mind you I usually tip 20-30%
Not in the US. I make $2.62 a hour and have worked at the same club over 10 years.'
Luckily i avg around $45 a hour cash though.

yea i would dispute those charges and call the manager. thats bullshit and borderline fraud.
Theft. I would call the restaurant and tell the manager they need to fire that waiter for theft. And I would call the credit card company and have them charge back the entire tip.
derp.
you avarage around $45 an hour. great pay. but if you made $5 an hour they are by law required to bump you up to min wage.
i know its complicated..if you are a idiot.
Standard tipping?Evolved into a tipping thread....
You are part of the problem. Tips are 15%. You are already starting out 5% higher and sometimes double the norm. Stop screwing up standard tipping for everyone else.

you are full of ignorance
Thanks for letting the world know!
What I don't understand is how management didn't catch it.
Every restaurant I ever worked at, the closing manager would input every credit card receipt into Excel, or manually calculate it.
They would add up every bill total, tip total, and combined total written on each receipt. If they didn't add up to what was input into the computer by the server, then they would have to manually find the receipt. Tedious, yeah, but it prevented stuff like this.
Most of the time they would just find out that half of their customers can't add correctly.

People who tout the "law" about an employer paying minimum wage probably haven't ever actually worked in the restaurant business. While it is technically required, it is extremely extremely rare for an employer to actually do this. And many or most wait staff are not even aware that this is the law. I would be surprised if it happened with any regularity in a vast majority of restaurants.
I appreciate the effort but McDonalds doesn't have dishes no?
Made me lol because of that.
I'm glad I don't live in the states I'd have a hard time with this tipping entitlement thing happening down there. Honestly, I didn't believe at first that your food servers and bartenders etc just work for tips.
In Canada they get paid at least minimum wage, tips are just a bonus. I would have gave $2 on a $35 meal.
This guy is not representative of Canadians, thanks.Who give a flying fuck about what you do in Can-u-da?
