Target has one for $25. Works pretty darm well too. It was within 2% of what the high tech one at the gym said.
I have an $80 tamita one and it gave the same reading as what my gym one did, which was a supposedly $2000 scale. Both were tamita, so I guess the cheap one used the same overall measuring devices/logic.

Still, best is either a pressure tank or water tank, but that's pricey and a hassel :) Taking pictures every week isn't a bad idea.

For some reason no body fat scale has every worked for me. They're always over 10 points away from what the calipers and water tank tell me. One of the guys at the local nutrition store (not GNC by god :p) was telling me that when you get to lower bf%'s the scales sometimes start acting a little screwy. I mean, when I was down at ~6.5% BF the scale was showing either 20% or ERROR. This was two different Target scales heh.

Buy a decent scale.

I need to get one of those tape measures

Fiber - or anything that acts like fiber. You can fill your belly with foods that will be quickly absorbed. Or you can fill up your belly with foods that will come right out the next day. Both will satisfy one of the hunger satifying criteria (there are a handful of ways to feel full, a full stomach is one of them).

And for the golf discussion: you burn nearly the exact same amount of calories by walking 4 miles as you do running 4 miles. Running will be better if you want to bulk up your leg muscles and sweat more, but there isn't much other difference.

LoL... what can I say... you all believe this because you want to, but sorry folks, you don't burn the exact amount of calories. Your cardio machine may say so, but that's incorrect.

Running: 5 mph (12 min/mile) 12
Running: 5.2 mph (11.5 min/mile) 13
Running: 6 mph (10 min/mile) 14
Running: 6.7 mph (9 min/mile) 16
Running: 7.5 mph (8 min/mile) 18
Running: 8.6 mph (7 min/mile) 21
Running: 10 mph (6 min/mile) 24
Running: pushing wheelchair, marathon wheeling 12
Running: cross-country 13
Walk: 3.5 mph (17 min/mi) 6
Walk: 4 mph (15 min/mi) 6
Walk: 4.5 mph (13 min/mi) 7
Walk/Jog: jog <10 min. 9

So let's calculate. The above are the values for calories burned per minute for a 180lbs person.

Let's say you run for 30 minutes (7.5mph), that means a total of 3.75 miles ran and 540 calories burned.
If you do the same for walking, assuming you are walking with 4.5 mph, you'll have to walk for 50 minutes to complete 3.75 miles and will burn 350 calories at the end.

Your idea of walking/running burn the exact same amount of calories is just a myth. In addition to the above values, running gets your heartrate up for a certain period of time, which means you'll be burning calories after you stop as well. Just a note...

Slap 25 pounds of stuff on your back and walk 18 holes of hills and valleys in 110 heat. I guarantee you are burning calories. Sure it isn't the same as running 4 miles, but it's certainly better than sitting on your ass and doing nothing.

I never said you won't burn ay calories :) I play the game as well. I just want him to know that it`s not a substitute for running :)

It doesn't matter. Just get your heart rate up and keep it up.

And no one said you had to run to lose weight. If everyone in this country dropped the remote for 4 hours a day, 3 days a week and walked 18 holes of golf, the rampant obesity that plagues this country would me much, much less of an issue than it currently is.

How long have you been working out? What was your starting weight and what's your usual workout routine?

If you want to lose weight one thing you can do with wieghts is reduce the amount of wieghts you are doing and increase the reps, almost until muscle breakdown.

Also the day after you run you should golf, and the day after you lift try swimming. Repeat.

Are you trying to lose weight, or trying to lose fat? There is a difference.

Exercise alone rarely does anything about weight. You need to cut back on food as well (or eat more food which is indigestible - which does the same thing).

I watched my diet as well. Stopped eating junk food, try to eat healthier food. ANd no soda at all (well at most its diet soda)

Good, keep it up. Eventually the increased metabolic capability of your muscles will start eating away at your fat. Don't worry about the scale, if you want to measure your progress then measure your waste.

Experts have been telling that for years. But nobody seems to understand that. They won't start exercising until their doctor says so because their blood vessels are clogged.

shrimp, how's the weather down there ;)j/k

With your body type I would go for a longer leaner look, more swimming and more reps less wieght on the bench.
