umm the link you gave does not say that, in fact if you look up the definition of ignorance on the same site you'll see they are entirely different matters.

Read all languages and read how stupidity and ignorance are used as synoynms when discussing other words. Click on some of the other words and you will see it lists ignorance and stupidity as syonyms for them.
And since their translations in swahili mean the same, it's gotta be true for English as well! Oh, and while we're at it, let's use logical fallacies to further break up any semblance of sense! This circle is red, and it's also a shape. Therefore all shapes are red!Originally posted by: Mill

Sigh. I'm a bit peeved this has turned into a semantical bullsh!t argument.
Synonym:
A word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or other words in a language.
A word or an expression that serves as a figurative or symbolic substitute for another.
They do have nearly the same meaning. Look at the two words in a dictionary and you will see they have many of the same words listed as synonyms or used interchangeably.

You're easily aggrivated, can you ever admit that you might possibly have been wrong, or made a mistake? (not contacting the professor) It was your fault, a one time professor came into the thread and said that he would have done the same thing, I know from experience that my professors virtually all have this policy whether it is written down or not. It's polite to let them know you're not going to be in class- sound ridiculous? Try not calling in when you miss work. Try it for a few days. See if you can hold a job.

I know I share blame in this, but I do feel the Professor is being unreasonable. I do have a right to talk to someone higher up, but I may not do that because it would probably be a waste of time. What I don't care for are the holier than thou people that want to give an opinion and expect me to say "ok, you are right." I have my own opinion about the issue, and I know how this professor is. Everyone in the class dislikes his methods, and all thought I should have been able to make-up the quiz. They heard me talking to him before class started. Secondly, I have been doing well in the class minus that quiz, and I've always helped out other students, been nice to the prof, and done examples on the board for him. Rules and regulations don't mean that a Professor has to be a hardass. You aren't supposed to be able to reschedule finals in the Sociology department except for serious illness, but I was able to for my brother's graduation. Different Professors have different ways of doing things. That's fine, but it doesn't mean I can't rant about it or think it is wrong. I don't have to accept anyone's opinion as fact either.
It would be different if I just blew off the quiz to go drink or because it was raining. I did neither. I had a valid excuse. I still want to know how anyone can understand why tests can be made up, but not quizzes. To me that is absurd.

Fact is they are used interchangeably and used as synonyms when discussing the synonyms of other words. Play semantics all you want, but that wasn't the actual "insult" I was talking about to begin with. Please don't start with fallacies, because you've hardly been fallacy free.

you cannot claim that words can be used interchangeably base on the words "translated " by the english language....any person who's first language isnt english will tell you that there are words that you cannot simply translate into english...or english doesnt have as intense a word as that particular language....ur argument again has no basis

The entomology of it is actually interesting, because many languages(including German) use the words as synonyms. I know you aren't making an argument that English didn't evolve from itself. Secondly, this list of synonyms we've posted is hardly complete. I'm sure I could find an unabridged dictionary that listed them as such, but why waste my time? Even if I did you all would continue to play semantical games. I don't care if you think I'm right or wrong. All that matters is if I think I'm right, which I do. You all seem to think that you can convince me to think that I'm wrong. It isn't going to happen.

Glossed over that post, sorry. Just keep in mind for future reference, it sucks having to call when you feel like sh!t or have an appointment, but it's how things generally are done. I don't like it anymore than you do. I usually try talking to my professors the day before to save my ass if I forget to contact them, which certianly could happen. I can't make up tests at my college at all, unless there is something serious wrong (car accident), so you have a point there as far as your policy goes. I had the worst math teacher EVER last semester, dropped the class and am taking it again over the summer because of that. Bad teachers do suck, I'll totally agree there. Thanks for calming down![]()

then don't expect us to care about your rant...
everyone has their opinions...and when some people give them to you and you get all steamed and start cussing at them like a whiny little teenager, you lose a lot of credibility. If you want us to listen to your side of it, then be prepared to hear what we think. Does that make sense to you?

You really will go as far out into left field as possible to try not to admit to being wrong. How about going down to your English department tomorrow and asking any of the English professors if 'stupid' and 'ignorant' are synonyms or if they even have remotely the same meaning. Of course, after they tell you that you are wrong, I'm sure you'll just call them 'morons', too.

That's really all I was trying to say. My rants are always overstated and hyperbolic in nature. Just search for posts by me. I was hardly actually angry or that upset. I just feel that I had a good excuse, and I do plan to talk to the Prof about maybe some additional bonus work in addition to that I've already completed.
