They've been shit for years. This, Brexit, even the 2012 and 2008 elections, I think. They were making those two elections seem close but Obummer won pretty hands down.
I lost my faith in economics and statistics a while ago. They're probably reasonable to +/-10% which is garbage in races that get decided by a couple.

The upside for Dems is that the Trump dog caught the car.
He clearly has no idea what he's doing, plans are less than paper thin, and he's made absurd and impossible promises he has to keep.
It also spares the dems from defending in 2020, which can set the next decade. Just need to survive the next four.
There is also a clear message that obstruction works. You got cheated out of a scotus pick. Take the gloves off and punch them back 10x harder.
Trump is a rich target for investigation. He's gotten a pass in this fucked up election, time to tear him apart.
The status quo is fine. There are no burning issues (unlike 2008) so getting nothing done is just fine. Dems own nothing, si are accountable for nothing. Destroy Trump and build up for 2020.

I've said it before and I will keep repeating it.
1. Skewed by using past elections, not adjusting for current voting trends. Using 2012/2008 black turnout is moronic.
2. Polls using idiotic sampling, such as D+15, women + 10, college + 20...etc. Throw all of that shit out.
3. Fishbowl politics - non-anonymous polling will *NOT* deliver the same result. Period.
4. Reliance on polling aggregators such as 538. It is Garbage In - Garbage out. His adjustments are a joke, they do not reweight the polls to more reliable numbers. It was obvious that the ABC poll was created to offset the LA Times poll in the RCP average, their weightings were idiotic.
Nate Silver has blown 3 major calls now. His career should be over, but people like Eski will be willing to fellate him endlessly because they supposedly have some magical statistical knowledge.

She's 70 now... she might have a shot in 2020, but that'd be pushing it.
Barring a surprise recovery for Clinton, the main consolation: Trump could ironically increase Democrat chances of regaining some control of Congress in 2018. Depends on just how much Trump's inexperience and ego hurts his party.
