How did Tom Hanks not get a nomination?!?! C'mon mannn!!!

there was an open campaign from the crew of the Maersk about how the Real Captain Phillips was a major tool that effectively endangered the lives of everyone.

It seems everyone was bitter that this asshole coward was turned into a hero in this movie.

True story, actually.

Similar to NYFD and NYPD vs. Guilliani re: 9/11

Okay, 33 minutes overdue, not bad.

Big winners were 12 Year a Slave, Gravity, and Dallas Buyer's Club. Again, major shutout for American Hustle. It did pretty well at all the other awards.

How did Sandra Bullock get beat by someone from a Woody Allen movie? I don't care how much "drama" there is in a Woody Allen movie, at the end of the film all the characters will still have air to breathe!

(In case you hadn't noticed, I can't stand Woody Allen or his movies.)

Other than the panic parts, her acting in Gravity was pretty awful.

...and I really like the movie.

That pizza bit was awesome. Brad Pitt being dad and making sure everyone had a plate lol.

he got a slice

I hoped Dallas Buyers Club would take the night. Thought it would.
Jared Leto is amazing and an actors actor.
Watch him in the 2007 film Chapter 27 (film about Mark David Chapman killing Lennon).
You'd never known it was Leto playing Chapman.
I can't believe the physical extremes actors go thru for a part.

Gravity was good but action movies never win, typically.
Gravity, Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle were all in that category thus doomed.

Ps. Good movie well worth catching currently in the theater, and totally shocked me that I like it, NON STOP with Liam Neeson.
I expected another boring, action, guns, explosion film.
Actually a good suspense thriller bordering on that Hitchcock style, that is if Hitchcock made action movies.

Out-takes from the motion picture GRAVITY

Same here, never met a Woody Allen movie that I liked.

I knew Cate Blanchett would get this.
It was all Cate Blanchett, not Woody Allen.
That one scene alone from this movie of a woman having a nervous breakdown, falling from a life of luxury down to commoner, that one scene alone where she sits across from the two kids at the fast food place looking directly at the two kids but going into a trance and starts to talk about failed love and failed relationships, that earned her oscar.
The looks on the two kids faces. Priceless!
(you have to see the film)

No one mentioned this yet? Bill Murray after announcing the best cinematographer nominees:

“We forgot one, Harold Ramis, for ‘Caddyshack,’ ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Groundhog Day.’”

Ya, I look back at past Oscar winners and wonder how the eff some of those won Best Picture.

Golden Globes seem to get it "righter" despite its reputation.

P.S. If you want "public voting", look no further than MTV awards.

You mean like when The Tourist won best picture at the GGs?

did they have an in memorium, showing all who died the past year?

yeah, as they always do. Quite sad--lots of legends died this year--Maxamillian Schell, O'Toole, Temple, and tons of innovators in terms of effects, stunts, editing, etc. And with the recent, young deaths: Hoffman, Ramis, and Gandolfini earlier. Hoffman was at the end and they held it for a long time.

Then that sea hag Bet-a Midaluh! slid out onto stage and sang her song.

They also seemed to linger on Paul Walker for a while.

I like it when Vice President Underwood spoke. :awe:

Did you really say *vice* president? :colbert:

Did blanchett say #suckit to Julia Roberts?

Yes, she did 🙂

Yup. 12 Years a Slave. No surprise there.

[hehehe]

Even Ellen started the show by saying there are only two things that can happen at the end of the show: 1. 12 Years as a Slave will win, 2. You're all racists 😀

That stupid Frozen song was the worst. How did that win over the other three songs which were actually decent? I usually hate all of the songs, but the first three were actually pretty good, then by far the worst one wins. D:

KT

The "I am my own hero in 10 years" bit was the best part.

Leto's speech was good too.

Leto had the best speech because of the mom bit. I stopped really concentrating on the speeches after the first hour -- not enough sleep Saturday night, exhausted all day = zoned out.

You mean like when The Tourist won best picture at the GGs?

"RightER" 😉. Forgot about that year.
