It's nice that they now have like 10 nominations for Best Picture, but at least 5 of them never had a chance in hell to begin with. Kind of a useless relatively recent change.

Fingers crossed on a 4 hour marathon show. F**k. I loved those marathon shows that ended at 12:30am to 1:00am EST as a kid.

I think 10 is too many. Then again 5 was too few. Maybe 7 would be just right. At 10 I can't even remember all of them. With a fewer number I can and discussions can take place without having to have a list in front of you.

I understand the purpose is too get the big grossing films into the mix, even if they don't have a chance. Gives people who were like fans of the Dark Knight hope that it might win and keeps them watching.

You're not going that far out on a limb there. The buzz around American Hustle seemed to die and Gravity is too much a sci-fi movie to win, although I think it does deserve it.

The problem, imo, is that they look too hard for "social" significance and have forgotten that movies are meant to be fun, or tragic, or just escapist. By choosing socially significant movies they are often just becoming irrevelant.

If voting was by the public, The Dark Knight would have been a winner.

Ya, I look back at past Oscar winners and wonder how the eff some of those won Best Picture.

Golden Globes seem to get it "righter" despite its reputation.

That's my style as well. If I'm around my computer I'll occasionally refresh IMDB to see who the winners are. I'll be damned if I'm going to waste hours actually watching that non-sense.
