How are they not launching a CMDA phone this year? Their two launch partners are the iPhone crazed AT&T and the smallest carrier T-Mobile? Seriously, how in the hell are they not launching a Verizon phone?

Don't forget that worldwide, the technology of choice is GSM. Considering Europe is launching two weeks earlier than the US, I'd say they wanted to put a heavy priority on the non-US markets too.

As for Verizon...the Kin debacle likely did little to help the MS-VZW relationship, so they'd have to do a decent amount of additional work to support CDMA at launch just for Sprint.

Besides, its not like they're never going to CDMA. HTC already announced the HTC 7 Pro - a Touch Pro 2 with snapdragon and WP7 - for Sprint in early 2011, and I'm sure Verizon will get something too.

This is just me, but I would stick with the Captiviate and wait for a second iteration of WP7. WP7 is a brand new OS, who knows what problems could be lurking ahead.

I've been waiting for WP7 for awhile, the Captivate ended up actually being an impulse purchase that I regret, largely due to Samsung and their absolute disdain for customer issues. GPS? Still broken. Samsung rewriting FAT32 to have journaling, and thus lagging the ENTIRE phone? Still there, even in Froyo 2.2 betas.

Samsung can kiss off, I'd take a broken WP7 over my Android experience on a Samsung device any day.

I have to say, the interface looks pretty simple and straightforward, although maybe not "beautiful". I'll be interested to play around with one of these as the platform matures. I'm tied down to an iPhone as my company is 100% Apple at the moment...but I like what I see with the newer Android and Windows 7 phones. Competition is awesome.

I'll be honest with you guys. One thing I'm feeling right now is a complete overload of information. There are so many phones sitting there that I'm thinking how nice it would be to only need to worry about one device today. And that made me realize why Apple's iPhone launch events are so effective. You focus on one new iteration of the OS, one piece of hardware, etc.

This isn't really a negative. It just makes reading up about WP7 that much more difficult.

Honestly I have to agree with you. I will want to get my hands on several models of these phones before deciding. I wished that verizon also had phones ready now.

Yeah, sort of overwhelmed with WP7 devices at the moment.

I have to admit it's pretty impressive.

We shall see what the reviewers say that hasn't already been covered...

The amount of leaks over the last few months helped with that if you've been following it. I've seen shots and specs of all of those phones between March and today. This was just matching official names with devices and carriers. Its still a lot of information, but most of it was just confirmation of leaks.

I'm really starting to like the WP7 UI with the exception of the home screen tiles. It would have looked so much better if they had used a Aero like background for them.

I think I'll hang on to my HD2 so I can install a WP7 rom on it...

Come on XDA, let's see a WP7 port

They've been working on it for awhile - if the devs get ahold of the HD7 ROM, that should help. I mean, the HD2 and HD7 are almost exactly the same, except for buttons and 720p video.

Well, pisses me off that Samsung is going to be the first device launched on AT&T with the LG and HTC "a few weeks later." FUCK SAMSUNG. I am getting the LG device, but I need to throw my Captivate on eBay now.

what's your gripes on the captivate? or point me to an existing post of yours.

If I knew that Verizon would have a WP7 phone released before they cripple their data plans I'd be waiting for this, but I don't think they'll make it to next June without screwing data 🙁
