I got to 97% and got "The patch client was unable to retrieve the file [?Jse/art2.myp/b31862344f47e1b7] from the patch server. Please try the patch operation again in a short while."

I've been reading around and it seems like everyone who gets near finishing the patch is getting this or some other error. And if thats the case then theres no point in using mythics slow ass patcher right now.

It would not be fair to judge the game on the 10 minutes I have played, but my initial impressions are that this is not ready for prime-time and seems pretty empty and lifeless.

The classes, IMO, don't appeal to me at all. There isn't a class that I seen on the order side that struck me as "Yes, that is what I want to be" instead, it was more of "Oh... I guess this would be ok"

The chracter creation section is rather dull.. It is about on par with WoW... I expected a lot more customization, even DAOC had more customization than this. So, we are going to have many people looking the same in this game, which is a shame, IMO. Perhaps the armor will help with this.

Within the first 2-3 minutes I experienced my first texture glitches. This is the same thing that happened with Vanguard (do they use the same engine? - GameBryo?). So I had to close out and now I will try and play again...

i've played 3 or 4 classes up to about lvl 3 or 4 now and I have to agree. I'm not impressed and so far, none of the classes I tried have made me want to keep playing them either. I also agree that none of the classes really stand out.

I've tried Ironbreaker, Bright Wizard, the dark elf assassin type class, i was going to start a shaman but the server i was on is full and i had a 18 minute wait in queue so I decided to take a break. The White Lion sounds cool but I've heard there are lots of problems with it.

Going to try every class I guess and see if any of them appeal to me.

It seems to be slow paced too - travel and combat - and you've still got the tons of generic go kill X of these and come back or go collect x of that and come back quests.

One thing I thought was cool was the quests where you got to shoot the cannons and stuff. that was different than other mmos i've played. otherwise it seems like every other mmo out there.

oh, public quests sound great, but in reality, i think they don't work quite that well. it appears to be based off the damage you do. The only time I did halfway decent was with my bright wizard and I think I got 5th place. I don't know how you're supposed to deal out the damage with many other people there also. by the time you target an enemy and get a spell off, it's 90% dead if not already dead.

and because its based on damage, no one will heal or ressurect you.

What can I say about their European side,I think the petition that some Warhammer fans have posted says it all link.

Todays fiasco has shown how GOA are not a suitable company to be running a big MMORPG title in Europe. Europe is the biggest player base for games like these.

GOA decided to release their European Account Centre on the same day they planned to bring the Open Beta servers up. Even after a community uproar that this was a bad idea, nothing was changed.

Today, the account centre supposidly went live at 09:30 Western European time, and since then there has been nothing but problems.

People who signed up to the site in the past years, but were not lucky enough to get a spot in the recently ended Closed Beta, had to make a new account.

A list of errors:

- Timeout errors (414) while trying to sign up.
- Database connectivity errors
- Authentication Image not showing
- Email's not arriving / Email's being delayed for up to 3 hours
- Entered keys being invalid or expired.

This petition is to put a number on the actual amount of people not satisfied with this. Some of us paid to get into this Beta. EA and Mythic should atleast be made aware of how GOA is running things.

Sign if you feel this is unacceptable.

**** Update ******

- People with an account on war-europe.com before the Account Center went live didn't need to make a new one, and this was apparently a mistake. Glad they told us that after 7 hours of trying to create a 2nd account.

You guessed right , Europeans like myself are still not in.

The game is lacking... something...

Maybe it's the walk/run speed that seems a little slow... or how combat/pvp is handled... or just the overall general look and feel of the game.

I should be having fun... but I find myself nodding off... :(

the shaman is a little fun, but maybe its because it's a goblin and it adds a little humor to the otherwise drab gameplay.

Just canceled my pre-order too.

I agree, the walk/run speed is too slow. I feel like they are deliberately trying to make everything take longer so it artificially slows me down, and makes me subscribe longer.

I'm only level 2, but my first impression is that it's just another very slightly evolved MMO. Similar types of quests, similar UI, same spamming combat.

My initial impression is that they should have followed DAoC's combat/skill system, rather than copying WoW. The game feels exactly like WoW does in the lower-levels.

ok, good thing I decided to make a White Lion despite of the things I had heard. White Lions are FUCKING AMAZING! they are damage machines, at least in PVE anyway. Definitely liking the White Lion.

Am I the only person that has named my lion also? I haven't seen anyone else's lion with a name.

This game can seem horrible or great depending on how you like your class. (Love black orc, hated swordmaster, both are tank archtypes)

So like Pontifex did, try out some other ones if you aren't happy and see if your views change.

I love how everyone complains that the game is 'too slow' just because WoW is ridiculously easily.

Comparing the game to EQ...

WoW is a lot of peoples first mmo and a lot of people I know refuse to play anything else because they don't want to admit all that time has been "wasted" if they quit.

They also assume WoW is original and can't fathom it ripped off just as much as any other game.

/sigh

Yeah I laugh at that too.

Another thing I think people forget is, WAR is only 40 levels. So they cut out a lot of bullshit leveling just so it feels faster.

You can get to level 13 in like 10 hours not even really knowing wtf you are doing and just doing the quests as you pick them up going from camp to camp.

Personally I love the game, I've spent almost all my time on Destruction and I like a lot of the classes. Sorceress, Disciple of the Kain, Black Orc, Chosen, Witch Elf, Shaman, Zealot, Maradur(sp), Squid Herder. Hell only class I didn't list is Magus and that is because I haven't played it.

Order side I have a few classes of interest but since I am set on going Destruction I haven't paid much mind to Order overall, though Engineers seem really cool.

Public Quests are simply great, especially the ones that are right on the border and the other side has the same PQ so people are trying to do the PQ and RvR at the sametime. The one I think in Chapter 3 on the Greenskinz is my fav.

Also, the city is freaking huge. Simply gigantic and awesome looking. Can't wait to experience city sieging.

There is a difference between the game feeling slow versus leveling slow.

Feeling slow means that the combat feels lethargic and boring, and it takes forever to get anywhere because of the slow running speed. I'm basically watching Dexter while leveling through War, and having no problems with it.

PVP/RVR is neat, but still just a slight evolution of what DAOC already had over 5 years ago (which a lot of us have already played...).

After it's all said and done, Warhammer will still do well, and be popular, because it pretty much plays and looks like WoW...

I should try some other classes to see how they play.

I hope you've leveled quite a bit from level 2 since you wrote that. Go roll a warrior in WoW and wait for 15 rage to hit your heroic strike and tell me how slow and lethargic combat is in that game as well.

Things really seem to pick up when you get to Tier 2 so I'd recommend you try the game until then if you get the chance. By then you'll have a bar full of abilities, your first couple Morale abilities, some great areas for world RvR and fun scenarios.

that's what i meant by slow as well, combat felt slow, except with my White Lion, and running seems slow.

what little pvp i did play felt exactly like wow's battlegrounds where you have to take the different "bases". I said from the beginning that it looked like a WoW clone, right down to the art style (maybe a little darker) but people said "no way, it's not". Well after playing it, I still say it's a WoW clone.

News update on the European situation.

Sept 8th 2AM CET
We have encountered serious problems with the authentication system since this morning, while the stability of the game servers, the speed of the patcher and the performance of the downloader have all been satisfactory. This issue, combined with an exceptional amount of traffic and a fault which was not identified during the extensive tests we ran on our platform has unfortunately limited the access to our servers to only a few of you along with our closed beta testers who had already been a part of the closed beta.

During the day, we have reconfigured authentication and database servers several times, both of which suffered under the huge number of simultaneous connections. The investigations and corrections we have done so far were essentially targeting the parts of the system which didn?t require a complete stop of the writing process in the database. This means we preferred to keep the database turned on during the day to let it work on the huge number of accounts that were in the process of being handled. This operation will continue through the night and when complete, we will shut down the database and reconfigure it.

If the operation works as anticipated, we can once again give you access to the account page and let you register your code for the open beta. We expect the whole maintenance to be finished late Monday morning.

Naturally, we will keep you informed of the development of this maintenance and we expect to give you an update mid-morning.

We thank you for your understanding at this very impatient time and we sincerely apologize for the situation.

Futher news update,

Sept 8th 3am CET
Dear all,

I rarely address players directly, but I wanted to write you as too few of you have been able to access the open beta today.

As my team explained in the previous post, although we have opened the servers and corrected numerous issues during the last 24 hours but we have not yet solved the issue of saturated Open Beta key activations that we?re currently experiencing. I am sincerely sorry for this, and I understand all the frustration the situation has spawned.

Today was a dark day. We expected a massive influx of players, but reality was even harsher.
I personally commit that we will communicate to you as clearly as possible on the resolution of these current issues. My goal is to give Warhammer Online the success it deserves. Be ensured that all GOA teams, with Mythic?s support, are working hard to bring you the best possible game experience.

Best regards,
Ghislaine Le Rhun
GOA CEO
.

Personally GOA only themselves to blame, what do they expect when they allow open beta testers to register only few hours before the patch update and start of open beta access ,plus also give out false information on those that have already registered saying they need to re-register if they are not in closed beta testing.

Shambles comes to mind.
