The tiniest things have the most uncanny ability to eff you over...

There's a not insignificant amount of land that a ton of people rely on at/near sea level.

Its true you never know ... my point was that (in the words of the immortal George Carlin) its not the Earth that's in trouble its us!

Even a large asteroid strike or the Yellowstone volcano won't do any damage a few hundred-million years can't fix.

So, what you're saying is that conservatives don't give a fuck about the future and that the here and now is the only thing that matters?
You act like this principle somehow only applies to conservatives, it's actually a principle most people hold unwittingly or not. People's misery is typically their own doing (assuming you're not born to drug addicts/abusive deadbeat parents) and all this despite making no sacrifices "for the greater good".

There is only a small fraction of the population that would willingly make interim sacrifices needed to fix this problem while "green replacements" are being devised... I.e. Not using Hot water, not heating/cooling buildings, not buying the latest/greatest gadget, using logistics to combine errands, carpooling, etc.

So to avoid all of the messy solutions that would actually address the problem but would anger their base, democrats typically have used AGW as a vehicle to push for tax increases to push their agenda of wealth redistribution. There is a sizable number of liberals who believe wealth redistribution is the only thing that is fair and it doesn't matter how it's accomplished but the fact that it gets accomplished at all.

We already know that conservatives don't give a fuck about the poor. Why should we vote for you again? Can someone fucking explain that to me?

Party of the stupid...
Yes because being the party of "free money" isn't stupid at all! Democrats actually think that you can raise minimum wage but not take into consideration that it will result in more unemployment. When ever a democrat creates a problem, their solution is to do more of the same shit that caused the problem in the first place. They're constantly trying to "equalize things" as they believe they're the purveyors of "social justice", they know best and that if somebody is poor, it has to be somebody else's fault. They also fully exploit the 'plight' of illegal aliens to their advantage in order to gain votes. Why else would they want to legalize all those illegals unless they were future democrat voters? What kind of stupid country just lets anybody and everybody in that has a pulse? That's no country at all! Serbia and Iran has better border control than we do.

Well, good luck getting poor people to vote for your party. I'm middle class and white and I'm not voting for you because I think you're full of shit and I don't give a fuck about abortion or gun control of any of the other useless wedge issues conservatives seem to care about. I am also firmly convinced that republicans don't care about the middle class.

Oh, and I do recycle, I have participated in car pools many times over the past 10 years and I have commuted by bicycle whenever possible.

I'm also a gun owner and I'm registered as a republican... but I haven't voted republican since we recalled Joe Davis and put in Arnold. I didn't vote for Jerry Brown though.

Is this the kind of BS that passes for political commentary in P&N?

what
the
shit?

So, what you're saying is that conservatives don't give a fuck about the future and that the here and now is the only thing that matters?

To put it another way, big oil contributed millions of dollars to get me elected and that makes me a lot of money, so I'm going to parrot whatever they tell me to. Besides, Fox news has my back on this with their fake scientists and all... what could go wrong?:hmm:

We already know that conservatives don't give a fuck about the poor. Why should we vote for you again? Can someone fucking explain that to me?

Party of the stupid...

The first thing I would do if I had absolute power in the USA and wanted to combat climate change...

Would be to impose a $5/gallon tax on gasoline.

That would result in the US car fleet becoming dramatically more efficient.

But of course, the poor would suffer the most in this regime. They would also suffer when I imposed a $1/KWH tax on electricity to keep down superfluous energy consumption.

Conservatives are in denial, and on a whole are much more idiotic than liberals, but at the same time liberals underestimate the amount of sacrifice needed to really make a difference. They act like doing a few things around the edges will solve it, like cap and trade, but in reality it would require broad-based changes in consumption.

So as a liberal - whatever that is - you would impose energy consumption taxes?

Did you know that much of the Northeast (Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont) has cap-and-trade and that this illegal scheme was imposed by Republican conservative (whatever that is) George Pataki to combat so-called climate change.

This cap and trade scheme was supposed to be used to promote energy conservation and renewable energy, instead the coffers have been raided to balance state budgets.

I paid .37 cents a KWH for electricity in January of this year. Let that highway robbery mull around your head for a minute! Or are you too busy sacrificing 1/2 of your brain for this left-right nonsense to actually be informed about anything of substance.

Oh yeah, cap-and-trade is likely coming to a town near you, as most people are too ignorant to even read their own energy bills. Enjoy paying higher taxes.

I can't wait for all this backlash to help elect a Republican Conservative. Then we can get back to waking up and actively criticizing the un-fucking-precedented amount of corruption in the US.

Disgusting, but not surprising to say the least.

It's amazing so many people are absolutely convinced in their belief that global warming is real or not let alone man made or not. I wonder how many of these people hold an advance degree in the relevant subject areas(should consist of at least chemistry and physics) to be able to offer such confident opinions. Me, I admit I don't understand enough about science to offer up any good opinion regarding this subject 🙁
I can only say I hope global warming is not man made.

You want to hope it's man made because that means things can be done to mitigate it. Also it's stupid to think that it's inconsequential to re-release carbon that has been sequestered for millions of years BACK into the atmosphere without consequence.

It's a good thing you're not in charge then

Many of us would take car advice from an auto mechanic, not from a hair stylist. There is no reason not to trust the experts in the field.

Hmm, what's up with this?

Antarctic Sea Ice At Record Levels

There seems to be some problems with the consistency of the message.

To be fair, a lot of that data comes from Boulder Colorado which contains more pot smoking hippies per sq ft than anywhere else in the country. And that was BEFORE it was made legal. I'm not sure if I can trust that these guys put down the funyuns long enough to compare the data properly :hmm:

I'm actually referring to the opinion of the people in this forum and everywhere else I see in general. How can any regular person be so absolutely positive about a subject so mind bogglingly complex to understand as the thermal characteristics of various molecules interacting in a medium as complex as the earth. Just the mere notion that under standard atmospheric pressure a mere 6.02 * 10^23 molecules consisting mostly of space themselves occupying 22 liters of space can have such profound impact on our daily lives makes me realize that my mind is simply not smart enough to understand the complexity of science behind global warming.

I hope it's not man made because if it's natural as many of those who are so darn sure it's caused by sun spots, then it means we are going through a cycle that will eventually correct itself into the iceage.

If it's not man made...will I don't want to live in water world.

How about you focus on the issue instead of taking this opportunity to regurgitate what you are convinced liberalism is really about? All you are doing is exposing how poisoned your mind is. Party of free money? Go fuck yourself. Maybe I'll just label you a part of the party of Raptor Jesus. Just as intellectually dishonest.

FYI, Emissions != Fuel Economy

We would have much greater fuel economy if the environmentalists didn't push emission regulations.

And if you really cared for the environment, you would push for smart traffic control systems (ie stupid traffic light timing). Making cars stop means more gas used and more pollutants.

I love that the EPA actually gave trucking companies a 10% emissions reduction credit if they installed those trailer side skirts to make them more aerodynamic. Unfortunately most emissions regulations are stupidly "per gallon" instead of "per mile"
