i don't get it.

your first paragraph states that you don't want people to discuss IE at all.

your second paragraph says that your favorite browser, which is made by microsoft, is being made more secure because people who dislike it continue to bash it.

can you please make some more sense?
The first sentence was directed towards Firefox whores. Seeing as to how it was only a 2 sentence paragraph, I figured everyone would understand the second sentence was also aimed at Firefox whores. I'm truely sorry if you get confused after only one sentence in a paragraph.

As for the second paragraph (it's 3 sentences this time, try and keep up), I didn't say IE was being made more secure because people bash it, I said it's because of competition.

Lord knows I tried to make this post as simple as possible. I'd be happy to explain this one as well if you can't comprehend.

i comprehended fine. your post wasn't clear enough -- and one thing's for sure: it's not going to change anything.

does anyone really use IE anymore? i'd say no. you're in a minority and you're slowly losing out. IE7 isn't going to convert FF users back to IE, i can assure you.

minority? what horse sh!t.

let me rephrase: a minority of technical savvy individuals. anyone with half a brain and is proficient in technology will be using firefox (or opera, i'll sadly admit) at this point.

Unfortunately, you are wrong. Anyone with half a brain and is proficient in technology knows how to use IE. You guys say it crashes all the time. Never crashes on me. You guys say it's a resource hog. Never had a problem here, but I know that's due to my browsing habits (I rarely have more than 3 IE windows open at any time, afterall I can only read thing at a time). You guys say it's bad for spyware. Like you said, anyone with half a brain and technologicly savvy knows how to keep spyware off your computer. I use IE6 exclusively, and never have problems with the kind of spyware that's bad (I do check fairly often, so this isn't an empty statement.) It comes from smarts of a pop-up blocker (which between the SP2 blocker and google blocker, NOTHING comes through, and Google hardly ever gets the chance to be the backup), and the smarts of only going to decent sites.

I find it hard to believe you consider yourself to have half a brain when you make boneheaded remarks like that.

adblock pretty much owns the sp2 blocker and the google blocker. just my observation from my practice usage of the two.

first of all, i've never said any of those statements that you attribute to "you guys." however, i'm guessing those browsing habits of yours includes only familiar sites of which you have termed "decent sites."

i'm guessing that you do the same thing everyday, and that going to new websites is not part of your daily regimen. that would make sense since you are adamant about and comfortable with what you are currently using, so why should you have to change?

i'm guessing that for you, newer technology is difficult to learn and therefore you refuse to learn it. you like what is familiar, and firefox is unfamiliar.

(side note: with FF, just fyi, you don't need to have 3 windows open at one time ... because TABBED BROWSING exists. and guess who came out first in that race? mozilla. firefox. not the almighty microsoft competitor.)

furthermore, why does it seem that microsoft decided to smarten up to secure their browsers AFTER they had the firefox competition? why didn't they do it beforehand? don't tell me "oh, they always did publish a fix, but they didn't push it out until whatever exploit became well known." that's no excuse. if microsoft sees a vulnerability, it should not wait until the threat becomes serious in order to roll out security patches.

Why is firefox better?

Tab browsing and tab preferences, if you do any heavy duty research where one page leads you to another link and another link and another link and now you're five links deep and you need to return to the orginal page, tabs are great for this reason.

One click and i get the latest weather report for myarea.

One click and i change the song that winamp is playing.

Two clicks and I block all ads from a certain domain.

Two clicks and I get to my RSS reader for all the latest headlines from the favorite sites.

I don't understand why you think IE is just fine, but that is your choice. IE is great for everyday users, however for power users who care about security, stability, and features FF is the way to go.

BTW, this is typed out in Opera which is another great browser even if you have to pay for it, it is well worth it.

Also, on another note can you explain how Firefox is "fledgling"?
It's based off of Netscape, which has been around since before the time of MSIE (though After about MSIE 3.0 I preferred it over Netscape up until Mozilla firebird first came out.)
Just because it's based off an existing platform doesn't mean it's old. Firefox is fledgling, because it still has a long way to go to topple IE from it's throne. If Netscape was so great, why so many offshoot attempts and namechanges to fix it?

So what you're saying is, you're an @sshole?

In order to not have to respond to those who will respond negatively, the only thing I care about Firefox is that it is competition. It's making Microsoft beef up my favorite browser and make it more secure, so I salute you anal MS/IE bashers for just that one thing. All other trolling needs to be toned down.

That is all.

Due to a thread in Software, you feel the need to complain to those people in OT?

WTF? Where the hell is Nik when you need him the most?

I use MSN Premium 9 that comes free with verizon dsl. The best thing about it is the offsite favorites list. So even though I reformat windows, my favorites list is stored offsite and never gets deleted.

Opera > firefox > IE

Only reason FF goes before IE is because of AdBlock. Otherwise IE would be ahead. :)

That arguement is just stupid - "It's better because it's everywhere"

The reason IE comes with everything is because Microsoft have made it so embedded into Windows that it HAS to be there.

And I would hazard a guess that most of the "Firefox whores" actually don't use Alienware - because Alienware sell overpriced PCs to those who don't have a clue, and most people here do.

The reason most OEMs don't install Firefox is because people would see the Firefox icon and not the "big blue e" and call them up and say "where's my internet gone?" - the general population (who are the ones to typically have problems with IE and could do much better with Firefox) are too dumb to be able to not use something different without having their hands held - even though Firefox is just as easy to use, if not easier.

The reason I use Firefox is because when I started using it when it was still called Phoenix and still in 0.3 release, it was something different, so I gave it a try, and I fell in love with tabbed browsing - it makes my desktop much cleaner. Rather than having 7 IE windows open, I have one window open (which clears up my taskbar for the other programs I have open) and I can just hover over a tab and it will switch to it, it's effortless. Also things like AdBlock, All-In-One-Gestures, GMail notifier and ForecastFox etc make my life much easier, and make my web browsing experience much nicer, without having all the popups and ads etc that I would get bombarded with in IE - especially when visiting more "dodgy" sites

I don't use Firefox to be "better" than anyone else - I use it because I prefer it and in my opinion it's a much better browser than IE, it makes keeping your PC clean a lot easier too.

Yes, but that one comes with it BUILT IN to the browser. ;)

I only use IE when I am forced to which happens when:

1) I'm at work.

2) My 401k site doesn't like FireFox, so I use IE. I just check it from work so I don't have to use IE at home. Ever.

However I don't want mine to do that - therefore I don't have the feature installed - which means a smaller install file, and less for the browser/system to run.

Firefox is very customisable to how YOU want it to function/look, unlike IE which has to function/look exactly how Microsoft want it to function/look.

Oh yes, the few kilobytes in a 1+GB system with a broadband connection is REALLY going to hurt you

I'm no IE fanboy, but some of the complaints you firefox fanboys levy against IE are just flat out stupid and mostly PEBKAC issues :p
