Its high time the boy scouts allowed freethinkers to join.

Some people are unaware but the boy scouts do not allow freethinkers aka nontheist to join. Like their ban on homosexuality this ban is discriminatory and should be lifted.

The public has not conformed to that standard and is still brainwashed by the general stance of theism. Much like homosexuality, unless it is publicly converted everyone no one cares. If the public does care, than groups of people will get butt-hurt because they are excluded from a club. And everyone should be members of ALL CLUBS OR ELSE ITS NOT FAIR!
 
They are a private club; they can do whatever the hell they want.

They can ban atheists, gays, blacks, Lithuanians... anyone they want!

Then don't join.

That's part of the fact that they're a private group. And until they change the rule of a belief in God is required, then I see no reason why they should change the ban on homosexuality. You see far fewer people talk about the one vs. the other unless the ban on homosexuality comes up.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with anyone's lifestyle or sexual preference, but the rules are pretty well known. Something you should take up as a cause is perhaps the entire "masculinity" that's forced upon professional sports, and them not "tolerating" openly gay athletes.

Who do you think has more of an impact upon society, the Boy Scouts or professional sports?
 
Their club. Their rules. If you don't share the core beliefs of their club, why would you want to participate in it?

I am not questioning their legal right to deny who they want, simply saying it is wrong on a personal level. Legally they can do what they want.

When I refused to include God in the oath during induction (back about '81 or so) they kicked me out. I had no idea they were a religious organization at the time or I never would have tried to join (was a DEDICATED atheist up until my 30s). Together with all the chaos surrounding the pledge of allegiance (and my precociousness and smart-ass demeanor) it resulted in 6 years of abuse, beatings, ridicule, and ostracizing.

While they're certainly free to do as they please, the problem is that there's really no alternative, except sometimes in very large areas. It's monopoly by demographics. In the end everyone suffers because kids have no other good options, get bent about no 'fitting in', turn inward and come back to shoot up their classmates (or at least don't become as good of citizens because they have no clubs/mentoring).

Rules like these, while within the bounds of law, are utterly immoral and decay societies.

So accepting God into your life would have made it a lot better, and would also prevent mass murders. That's a very interesting theory.
Imagine how much better your childhood would have been had your parents been wise enough to teach you tolerance.

Okay, that was just a gut reaction from the soul of my being. I got sailing merit badge. We spent more time learning the stupid knots than we did sailing. The actual boats had clips, no knots needed.
 
wrong forum, anyway they're a private organization, if they're doing outrageous things, the lack of donations and public pressure will make them die. I don't even know their rules and I'm all for equality but this is a basic principle of liberalism. A religious organization has the right to include only religious people. Gays? Fix homophoby in sports first.
