You know, with that kind of attitude something is bound to go wrong. That's my dad's attitude towards everything about cars and let me tell you, he sure has fvcked up all our cars.

Funny, because I didn't even look at who the OP was nor was that in any way meant to be deragatory. I'm just telling you, if you let stuff like this slip now, you're gonna slowly get the attitude that "if it ain't broke don't fix it," and with cars small stuff is never a bad thing, even if it doesn't "need" it.

Check the fluid levels, ensure the oil is not dark brown/black. If so, then get it changed. If it still looks golden brownish then no need to change.

Ensure it's at its proper level as well.

Changing oil often, often depends on driving style. If your 1500 miles are mostly highway then no worries. 1500 miles under grueling city stop & go driving, then you prolly want to change it. Now 1500 miles of track use kepping your rpm's above 5000rpm and your motor under lots of stress and heat then for damn sure change your oil, and you should have done it 1000 miles ago

I've heard that you're supposed to change oil and filter every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Maybe one of our resident mechanics could come in and end this thread before the flaming gets out of hand. :)

3000 miles with todays cars is a waste of money as well.

Go by the manual, which is likely 5000 or 6000 miles.

Color isn't a good indicator of when the oil should be changed.

You've GOT to be joking. 3500 miles is the standard "severe service" interval...for grueling stop&go driving. The manual usually recommends between 6-8k, but unless it's mostly highway miles I change it more often than that. 1500 miles though...that's taking it too far;)

I've never understood the 3 month thing. Probably just jiffy lube trying to sell more oil changes. Every manufactuer has a recomended intervel and I have never seen one that has a time to change other than milage.

Depends on how you drive, and what kind of oil was previously in the car...I usually go about 3-5 months on regular oil, and about 6-9 months on synthetic.

I've been following the 5,000 mile / 6 month plan myself. I only drive about 2,000 - 3,000 miles every 6 months.
