Just got back from the Raleigh event.

Didn't get a processor, but I got to see Anand at least.

Just got home from the Raleigh event (I've got a little further to drive than the others apparently). All I can say is that it was awesome - no, I didn't get a CPU, but I did get a lot of free stuff. I must have given away 5 or 6 t-shirts and hats and still had a couple of shirts and a hat left over. Besides, what could possibly beat being at an event with none other than Anand himself making an appearance. For those that don't know, Raleigh is his home-town. I figure there must have been between 500-600 people at the main event. The VIP pre-event was great, too (although the information about it being at the Longbranch was incorrect). Awesome food (coconut shrimp, chicken quesadilla's, swedish meatballs, veggie's & dip and some sort of egg roll thing). The battle of the boxes was a classic. One contestant finished in 23 minutes, and the other ran into some complications that caused his system not to boot. The first one had an LED that didn't work, but the great guys at AMD decided that both had followed the correct procedures, and the problems were not their fault and awarded them both $2,500 each plus a CPU. How cool is that??
Ok, that's enough for now (12:35am is just too late for this)
Good luck to everyone going to future events!

I MET ANAND IN PERSON :D

My roommate got to touch him...w00t!

Dear Anand,
If you read this...You should have seriously taken back the CPU that guy won from you.

For those who weren't there...some guy had the nerve to yell "Hard OCP" into Anand's face after he won a free Athlon 2400+ from him. Such disrespect/immaturity...dissapointing indeed

I luv you Anand!!!

To those that showed up, thanks for the support and sorry I didn't have more CPUs to give out :) It was nice meeting all of you.

Jza

It was perfectly fine, Kyle is a great guy and HardOCP definitely deserves the recognition :)
Take care,
Anand

Hehe naw, not a big deal at all - you can't let things like that bother you :)

It was great to be there and meet all of you but for now I've got to get some rest, I'm dead tired.

Take care,
Anand

They were giving out 2400+s? Or was that just Anand giving it?

Oh wow! Its Anand, all hail to thee, our savior from the Intel Ad campaigns...Representin InDiA!

Guys Im a kinda newb at building computers, reason being....Ive only built one! I should be finished with my second before the event...but ya know practice makes perfect.

How many Ram Chips are there? Can I get 2, 128 2700's? Or the 2100....IF its a 2000+ then you probably wont see gains from the 2700's, but, using 2 128's in DDR slots 1&3 will enable the 128bit Memory and should increase performance.

What type of hardrive is it? And are there any other IDE/FDD devices that need to be connected? Are the jumpers already set or do we have to set them. What type of jumper's are on the K7n420? I would really appreciate this one, Im trying REALLLLy hard to find a place that sells the motherboard....ive been to googlegear newegg....gameve! None of them have it...So much for MSI really pushing a good product.

And the last Question.....How cool was Anand? Was he this majestic technological guru floating in a meditation position? Or was he this massive Hunuman with a vast precence of knowledge?

I would think that Anand gets his fair share of computer parts when reviewing them.....Hell 200$ says he has an NV30 in his hands and he has been toying around with it for at least a couple of weeks. Of course he has a NDA....probably expires on the 16th or 17th. Now Anand, I dont want you to break your NDA, but if there were a table just somewhere....in the middle of the road or something.........would you run out and dance on top until the break of dawn?

I'm still pissed that last year they skipped 20 combos in the middle of the giveaway in Houston. :| Still wonder if it was just a mistake or if the promo people kept them for themselves. Anyway, may be there for the Houston event, even though it's farther away this time around.

Anand was causing a little trouble last night... I don't think mentioning that the nForce2's dual channel DDR was a bit more expensive and complex to implement on motherboards was on AMD's agenda :)

Does it really last until 11:00?
If I show up at 10:00 will they still be giving stuff away?

You need to get there on time (to optimize your processor winning chances)... you put your tickets into boxes, and they choose processor winners from the boxes throughout the night.

So can anyone share details about the events? what kind of turnout was there?
How exactly does the processor giveaway work? How many did they give away?
And my biggest curiosity, how did the system building contest go? What sort of competition was it?

Details Details!!! :D
