Hey hey hey, now! We had quite a turnout last year, freezing our @sses off. Don't really know why they held it in the Altamonte Mall parking lot, but whatever, I got a mobo and CPU out of it. Don't get them thinking that there are better places to hold this in Florida!! :)

I drove down from Jax, won a 2000+ and mobo, 5th person called overall.....

worth the trip.

Im going to this one with my wife in tow. Figure the odds are better, although she runs the 2000+ I won last event and I sue a 2200+ in my machine.

but yer right, it was friggin cold as hell.

but I wouldnt mind them holding it in Jacksonville anytime.

ATTENTION: ALL MILITARY PERSONNEL IN NORTHERN VA/DC

The location for the AMD Reality Check event is off limits to all military personnel!!!!! DO NOT GO, unless you do not wish to remain in the military. The Nation Nightclb is not exactly a place you would want to go anyways... I certainly am not going to risk my 20 years over a chance to win a CPU... To add insult to injury - the date of the event in November 11th - Veterans Day :disgust: From DCMilitary.com

D.C. nightclub off-limits to all military

by Information from article in the Walter Reed Army Medical Center's Stripe

The D.C. nightclub, Nation, is off-limits to all military personnel in the National Capital Region, including Fort Detrick. The Joint Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board made the announcement effective Aug. 22.

The JAFDCB, headed by Maj. Gen. James T. Jackson, commanding general of the Military District of Washington, issued the order because of reported drug trafficking and use at the club.

The Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board is charged with the responsibility of protecting the health, safety, morale and welfare of military personnel and their family members off military installations. One action available to the board is to declare an establishment "off-limits."

Since 1999, 91 servicemembers who were apprehended for use, sale and possession of illegal drugs said they got the drugs at Nation, located at 1015 Half Street, SE in the District.

"All servicemembers are prohibited from entering this area as long as this order is in force," Jackson said. The owner of the club has been notified of the order.

"This order is punitive," said the general. "Military personnel who violate this off-limits order may be subject to disciplinary action under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

All commanders and supervisors must ensure all military personnel under their supervision are aware of and fully understand this order.

For more information about the "off-limits" restrictions, call the Fort Detrick Legal Office at 301-619-2221.

Fanatastic event in Orlando tonight! Had a blast and won one of everything; a 2100+ CPU, a AMD hat, T-shirt and a nice leather shoulder bag with many compartments. AMD does a great job with these events and if you have a chance to go, you won't be disappointed. :)

I just wish I could have won the $2500 they gave away for the battle of the boxes. :( Soooo.... close
If you go to the events, make sure you brush up on AMD history and where all their fabs, home offices etc. are.

I was at the Phoenix show...for anyone who was there, my name is Josh ( I was the second guy picked for battle of the box's ). My damn buzzer wasn't working so that old man beat me.. All in all, I had fun.. they threw out a lot of shirts.. I think I've got like 4.. And then just for getting into the contest I got a neat bag, hat, mints, another shirt, and a 2100+.. Which, I know it's free and all, but it's kind of a disapointment. I mean last year I came away with a 1800+ which I believe was the first day they were released. I won that at the San Francisco show, *and* it came with a motherboard. Atleast these *are* retail chips w/ HSF. Anyways, here's some trivia for anyone who makes it into battle of the box's..

1) What was AMD's first northbridge chipset to support the AthlonMP = Answer I believe was 762b
2) Who was the first motherboard manufacturer to suppor the AthlonMP = Tyan
3) Where is the AMD headquarters located = The girl said "in a building" and she got it right..
4) How many pins are on the AMD AthlonXP = 462
5) What is the name of the CEO of AMD = I don't remember
6) What color is the AMD AthlonXP chip?
7) What color was the AMD Athlon Thunderbird chip?
8) Which was the fastest of the first released AMD AthlonXP chips? = 1800 ( nobody got that one right but me, couldn't believe it )

Those are just off the top of my head... There pretty basic. I would study some AMD history, and look at an old AMD CPU roadmap.. I don't think there's any tricks to winning. Just make sure if you are under 18 to have a parent with you. They will *NOT* give you your prize otherwise. I saw some like 12 year old win and didn't get to take it home.. sucks for him. Also, here's some full details on battle of the box's..

You will be working with an MSI Nforce board ( most likely the k7n420d ).. hard drive, cdrom, floppy are pre-mounted. You have to put the board in yourself and connect the components ( including the LED/power jumpers! ) you have *ONE* chance to boot the box. If it does not come on, the other contestant goes and all his box has to do is come on to beat you. So make sure you get those jumpers right, you can't just tap it with a screwdriver.. I'm so mad at myself for not winning that heat of questions.. I could have had $500 if I just beat that guy.. GRRR!!! And I most likely could have built the box faster than anyone else since I currently have that same exact nforce board.. Oh well.

Thanks for those! I'm gettin ready. I know what color Thunderbirds are, but don't really know what to call it. Brown, green, what?

Atlanta is 2 days away! Only one test and one class stand between me and ATL. Oh yeah, and a group project.

Ooo Thanks for the Info about the questions, I know a lot about general Computer history but AMd history is kinda shoddy. Hector Ruiz is CEo of AMD right now, before it was Jerry Sanders. Current color of athlon chips is green, before it was this orange brown and was made out of ceramic, now its green because its made out of some organic material. Hmm what else.....Oh any clue to what type of hardrive? I forgot all about jumper settings, and I guess I had better memorize all of them.

Looks as if a lotta people are winning! I hope I win, I believe I deserve a new comp for myself. I do have the guarentee from my dad though that If i get National Merit Scholar, I get 2.5G's for a clawhammer machine this summer! Woo hoo. But of course, I would probably only spend 1600$ and save the other 900$ for upgrading....
