D.C. nightclub off-limits to all military
by Information from article in the Walter Reed Army Medical Center's Stripe
The D.C. nightclub, Nation, is off-limits to all military personnel in the National Capital Region, including Fort Detrick. The Joint Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board made the announcement effective Aug. 22.
The JAFDCB, headed by Maj. Gen. James T. Jackson, commanding general of the Military District of Washington, issued the order because of reported drug trafficking and use at the club.
The Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board is charged with the responsibility of protecting the health, safety, morale and welfare of military personnel and their family members off military installations. One action available to the board is to declare an establishment "off-limits."
Since 1999, 91 servicemembers who were apprehended for use, sale and possession of illegal drugs said they got the drugs at Nation, located at 1015 Half Street, SE in the District.
"All servicemembers are prohibited from entering this area as long as this order is in force," Jackson said. The owner of the club has been notified of the order.
"This order is punitive," said the general. "Military personnel who violate this off-limits order may be subject to disciplinary action under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
All commanders and supervisors must ensure all military personnel under their supervision are aware of and fully understand this order.
For more information about the "off-limits" restrictions, call the Fort Detrick Legal Office at 301-619-2221.
