Considering that 1/3 of the students are going to fail or aren't even going to make it to high school, considering that education isn't a right, and considering how well voluntary home or neighborhood schooling works, how much cheaper it is, and how much more efficient it is (6 hours/day in a public school can be done better at home in 3), I think that public schooling is a waste.

Too many students screw it up for the rest, and you can learn off the internet these days.

Private school teachers get paid way less than their public school counterparts and that's ridiculous.

People also don't gain much intelligence from education. They're either born dumb or they're born smart. But idiots like Obama and Hillary "big money pimpin'" Clinton say that public education FORCED AT GUN POINT will make everyone smarter.

What good has public education done? I can understand vouchers at the state level maybe, but public education is a waste and it really sucks.

And I, almost happily, paid $5066.75 yesterday for my kid to go to private school.

yes, that's what happens when you put government in charge of anything. It becomes bloated and useless.

Nice try, but you still have to go to school tomorrow.

There's been a lot of good responses in anarchist420's threads, but this is definately in contention for the grand prize. For laughs someone should string together some of the best sometime.

you talking about spending a couple hundred for a toilet seat? yes, I agree its crazy. .15 Billion for a plane, yes that is crazy too. I know you are being your usual ass by saying cutting it by 90%, but there is alot of places in the military that can be cut.

I don't judge salary since you're paid what you're worth proof is people are paying it.

I bet two beers that we will hear a similar proposal from the GOP if they win the White House in 2012.

After all "education is not a right"
After all we should "I" paid for your education!

I think states should just start issuing vouchers if a child chooses not to attend public schools to go to private schools. I'd bet we'd get a lot more bang for our buck.

Of course, teachers unions would have none of that.

How much of our military budget goes towards the defense of other nations? Lets cut that first.

But but we need 50,000 troops in Germany. (Yes thats around what we have their now). Let alone Japan, Korea, etc...

I have no problem with that, as long as any school that takes even 1 voucher has to bus its students and take ALL that apply (even the handicap) See how many PS's take vouchers then. :D

Ultimately the responsibilty for ensuring children have an education is up to the parents of those children. I pay taxes for someone else to go to school, how is that right? I don't recieve any benefits from them learning. There is no right to Public Schooling, HealthCare, or even Social Programs. I watched yesterday as a mother of 4 children put 3 bags of candy and some soda pop on the conveyor belt at walmart, she paid with EBT. Once again tax-payers providing the best in Dental healthcare for our nations lower class children.

I don't think thats doable. But why would you want to impose those restrictions?

Handicapped should go to schools that know how to deal with that.

How could you mandate that a school take an unlimited amount of students? Even public universities don't do this. The schools should decide how many and who can be admitted.

Leave the public schools in place and issue vouchers. Things will take care of themselves.

It certainly can't be worse than the shitty system we have now.

So in other words allow private schools to only allow those that have funds and ability to get to school and pass their test. Then when the public schools get left with the rest ues that as reason public schools are failing but private schools rock.

Got it. :D

Public school is a handicap to any smart child, some are born smarter than others, some have a mental capacity with the ability to be geniuses, others will not make it through high school and will drop out. We are not failing them by not letting them graduate, they simply don't care enough to stay in school, let them get a job and work the rest of their lives in lower class jobs, someone has to do it. The bonus to these Public Schools being closed would be us no longer having to educate all the illegal aliens coming across the border to get an education!

How is that different than what we have now? At the least the poor kids would have a way out of our shitty public schools under my system. They're the ones stuck there right now while the rich people send their kids to better schools.

Theres no reason all students wouldn't be able to find a school.
If theres money schools would open up.

Are there not all different kinds of private schools already?

Schools that cater to the mentally challenged, blind, learning disabilities, under-performing kids that need special attention etc

Theres no reason that these kinds of schools could not exist.
Kids with problems could get a voucher worth even more value perhaps.

The only place to go is up as far as I'm concerned.

Or we could just keep the status quo, hows that been workin out? :D

So vouchers would each have differant rates they pay? If not then there is no way it would ever be able to pay for any special school for handicap kids. I'm guessing you have no idea how mcuh it trully cost to cover things PS's can just pass off to the public system right now.

But I keep forgetting you are still on mommys tit so maybe one day you will see how the real world works and how much it really cost.

Well, if we break the back of public education we can import educated workers from India and China. I am sure that would be cheaper and easier in the short term but in the long term this would really screw the country.

Yeah, sure, theres no reason handicapped kids could not get really higher rates from the state.

And wtf is with the ad hom attacks? You know nothing about my life. Just trying to have a civil discussion. Whats with the hostility of people in this forum?

No it would not. We should just let the free market handle it. I am sure PSs will take in all the special needs kids and those that don't have transpotation. Just ask matty's mom ;)
