There is a VAST difference and your argument here is VERY pathetic.

Neither windows XP or Vista work perfectly out of the box for everyone, i had to install AHCI drivers to keep my laptop from bluescreening when i booted up XP for the first time a few weeks ago. Also i remember random ads popping up on my desktop with XP (back when it was a new OS 2003ish for me), i had to disable the messenger service and for a novice that can be quite a daunting task. Vista dosent play nice with my desktops network port, god knows why it locks up and freezes as soon as i go near the problem and try to solve it, also nvidias drivers up until a month ago with the release of the 169's were less than stellar, TDR errors constantly popping up with vista + their drivers, yet on XP everything was fine.

So for me they've both been defective in one way or another, i guess they should have learned something from the previous umpteen OS releases they've had and i expected better from vista. Its not like im running some obscure configuration that me and two other guys on earth are running, its pretty standard stuff. People say its not microsofts fault its 3rd partys, like nvidia and creative, well thats fine and dandy but your still stuck at square 1 with a misbehaving comp irrelevant of whos fault it is. Microsoft should have pressured 3rd partys to develop decent drivers more, they are the largest corporation in the word arent they? they should have some clout with the rest that depend on their OS.

It's very relevant, once you know who's really at fault you can stop buying their products until they work on their QA.

Microsoft should have pressured 3rd partys to develop decent drivers more, they are the largest corporation in the word arent they? they should have some clout with the rest that depend on their OS.

The desktop market isn't the only market in the world so it's not like they can order other companies to do their bidding. And MS has taken steps to lessen the affect of driver issues by moving as much of the video and sound drivers into userspace which ironically is one of the things that most people are complaining about.

Vista, for me, worked more 'perfectly' out of the box than XP ever has. It even took care of my printer for me, complete with the custom LaserJet UI from HP.

Vista sure didn't detect an old Netgear 10/100 NIC on one of my computers.

Vista gave me a BSOD with just Firefox open. Windows XP has never done that to me.

What's your point? When I had XP on my T43 it was rock solid but I still needed to provide it about 6 drivers. Does that mean the XP is crap? Absolutely not. This whole 'out of the box' stuff is pointless. Ubuntu installed drivers for everything on my T43. That means Ubuntu > * for everything, right?

My point is that after a complete install (had to reword this to stop confusing people) Windows XP works with everything. After a complete install on Vista you will have problems. If you don't understand that then I can't make the sentences any simpler and you should move along.

I'm not going to repeat myself or what others have said. That's why I referred to Google. Any normal person with above average intelligence knows how to use Google to find things. Key words are a good place to start.

I don't see why people get so bent out of shape over whether or not someone likes Vista. If you like it, then use it and quit bothering the people who still want to use XP.

Personally, I'm extremely happy with my upgrade from XP to Ubuntu.

No offense, but it works both ways. If people who like XP (or OS X, or Linux, or whatever) would just use it and quit bothering the people who want to use Vista, we wouldn't have these mindless "Vista sucks!" threads over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over......

Religious wars are idiotic. Moreso when they are wars over software religion.

No it doesn't. We state the reasons we aren't using Vista and people like Mem come along and call us idiots and say we're spreading FUD. I swear he must work for Microsoft or something the way he defends that OS.

I'm taking note too in case I have to pm a MOD, then they can deal with the guilty party as they see fit, wonder where MEAN MOD is hiding :D .

Personally, I'm extremely happy with my upgrade from XP to Ubuntu.

I'll have to try it one day, shame gaming support is not there at present.

Guilty? I honestly can't stand how you bash everyone that says anything negative about Vista with the words "troll" and "FUD". I could care less what side some moderator picks because you can't handle your discussions.

You don't know me very well do you?..I don't go around bashing people(they tend do that themselves) very few people here I have had arguments with and I have been here a long time.
Funny how you keep bringing up the Troll and FUD word and even Vista again.
Btw if you check my last few posts, they've been about trying to help people and about gaming.
As to your post above and even posts to other members here ,try being polite for once it costs nothing.
Anyway lets keep this thread on topic since I'm in a very good mood and I intend to stay that way.

I bolded the kind of crap that makes you come across as the resident troll.

You're just flat out wrong. "You will have problems." Presumptious and misleading.

LOL! Why, because I guarantee that someone is going to have problems? I've had problems on every single system I've touched with Vista. That includes two gaming rigs of my own, a Dell D400 laptop and a brand new Dell 755 at work that I booted up and had a fresh Vista Business install on it.

That's multiple systems all with Vista and I had issues JUST RUNNING THE OS on EVERY single one!

A 4:4 ratio is pretty damn ****ed up if you ask me. It doesn't bode well for something that you and some select few others have deemed worthy of BASHING users for. I'm not a stupid troll by any means. It's just a convenient word you use when someone doesn't EVER agree with you.

If I had no experience with Vista I might agree with you that I could be a troll but in fact I do have experience. So stop with the kiddie troll and FUD comments. None of you can say anything other than "It works fine for me." I find that to be a BS statement and unacceptable on any level of help to anyone.

Then by the same token, you cannot say stuff like "After a complete install on Vista you will have problems." All you can say is "I did four complete installs of Vista and I had problems on all four."

Eh? ;)

Oh, and Google can be (mis)used to support nearly any position, if you search for what you want to find. Like how the Earth is hollow, with openings at the poles where the Martians fly the spacecraft in & out. I daresay I could do a Google search which "proves" that massive numbers of WinXP users have problems, too... and if I specified security problems, it might even be somewhat representative of the truth, too. ;)

Maybe you just don't know what your doing? I haven't had any problems with Vista on the 3 machines I've installed it on ;)

No it doesn't. We state the reasons we aren't using Vista and people like Mem come along and call us idiots and say we're spreading FUD.
That's because most of it is FUD. I would say most of the "issues" people post about here and elsewhere have to do with a handful of things: Superfetch, UAC and the defragger. That's because people don't really understand how they work. Once you explain how Superfetch works (using your memory is a good thing), what UAC is really for (hint, its not directly related to security), and why colored blocks in a defragger are meaningless, their problems will go away. That is if they open their eyes and ears and actually listen to what's being said.

Problem is, a lot of people like to stick their fingers in their ears and scream I can't hear you!, which is why we beat these horses to a pulp day in and day out. It's why I wish this forum had a Battlefront section like Ars, so the the S/N ratio could be lowered and people with actual problems and questions could get help.

Oh wow. This is really getting out of hand. I don't know what I'm doing now when it comes to using a computer?

That's the biggest troll statement I've ever seen.

Yes, the BSOD I got while running only Firefox after a fresh install has anything to do with what you pointed out? Give me a break. That's not FUD.
