the only reason i would ever have vista on my computer is if i bought a boxed computer, and unlike some of the older microsoft operating systems, i wouldn't automatically delete the windows partition and install something else. some of the ui features are pretty snazzy. i especially like the aero glass.

There are so many people at Microsoft banging their heads on the desk because of this exact thing.

I walk through bestbuy and see pretty looking Macs here and there, then walk by the Vista machines and see all this ugly crap messing up the desktops. The OEMs load so much junk on them and that's the impression everyone is left with...Vista is bloated.

Unfortunately MS can't tell the OEMs not to put a bunch of sh*t on the desktop or your friendly neighborhood attorney general will sue.

Why don't you all make a basic windows vista dvd ? It can be done from the boot up cd or dvd and even the contents of the hard drive I believe. That way you can reformat and install just windows vista. Of course you will make sure you have the driver folders as well in case you need them. Sometimes you can't find the drivers for OEM built computers online. They have guides for this on google for a lot of brand name pcs. Even if you uninstall all the junk it doesn't get rid of it all. Thats why its best to create a basic windows dvd with just windows on it and drivers if need be. Then you can install everything you want to. Even if someone still wants something that came on the bootup dvd you should still be able to install just that one program.

that pc world article just a fluff piece. they basically list everything tech related and put it on the list! iphone, vista, os x leopard, municipal wifi... cell phone carriers??? that list completely sucks. but then a list with more substance probably wouldn't generate as much viewership and shock value.

i can think of much better tech disappointments. how about...

... itanium? the return on investment on this one can't possibly be in the black.
... penryn? a chip meant for the high-end should have had this bug stamped out during qa
... crapware? computer manufacturers, please stop bogging down your computers with trial programs that no one wants

indeed they do. it's annoying. i wonder if there are any programs out there that can modify a vista installation from any manufacturer to that of a fresh vista install state. that way people can save the hours it can potentially take to manually uninstall crap

1. Use restore disk
2. Uninstall the crapware
3. Create image of OS and store it somewhere safe, like an external drive
4. ???
5. Profit!
