Is Trump Trying to Stage a Coup?

Gawd only knows what they will try next. Some of the options I predict they will try....
Using the military in some aspect.
Starting a war with another country.
Creating a nation emergency to freeze the transition.
And that is just off the top of my head.
Maybe they will use the MY PILLOW GUY using his pillows to suffocate us in our sleep?

What political, congressional, or constitutional stunt they might try we won't know until they try it. But one thing we all know for a fact.... Donald Trump WILL TRY SOMETHING and with so many congressional republicans now on board and engaged in this coup attempt they have the ability to do great damage. Great damage to America and great damage to the civility of America. Seriously, their failed attempt to overthrow the government should be more than enough justification for congress to deem Donald Trump as a danger and to remove Trump immediately before he can impose further damage. This is no longer a case of what Trump and his people might try next, this is the reality they no longer give a damn and will try anything and everything. At this point they are as wild animals trapped in a cage and there is no limit to what they will try next. Donald Trump must go NOW. We can not afford to have Donald Trump in the presidency for one more day yet along some 40 more days. Holy shit America....

If the lawsuits are part of a coup attempt, it isn't because they intend to prevail in court. Yet recent surveys show more than half of Republicans believing Trump rightfully won and was a victim of widespread fraud. Just like the Mueller report spin. Repeat something over and over again. It's called the mere exposure effect.

A coup is the overthrow of the existing government or authority, often through violent or illegal means. Trump trying to retain power by throwing hail mary passes to game the existing judicial/electoral system is simply an abuse of power. It’s not a coup, no matter how many threads get started saying it is.

No. He’s trying to get judges to make a ruling in clear violation of the Constitution to overturn a democratic election.

This is an attempted coup no matter how many dummies say it isn’t.
 
I hear, and correct me, but I’m hearing that Trump and Rudy Giuliani have decided to revert back to square one. Trump will begin by going back to the state courts, which he already lost in, and try again. If I heard right, Trump will go to the state’s supreme courts and I’m assuming they believe doing that will lead them back to the US Supreme Court. So even after Joe Biden takes office it looks like Trump will simply continue on with court after court. Probably up to the point where the money starts coming out of Trump’s pocket, then it will stop. It’s really so sad about the Trump people, Adolf Hitler only wished he had such loyalty during WWII. What are we going to do with these Trumpies? What ever are we ever going to do? Someone give them another $1200 stimulus check, and a cookie, and send them home.

No, he is bringing legal challenges that the judiciary is dismissing due to lack of evidence and merit, as they should. That is not a coup no matter how many alarmist dummies say it is. By your logic, Al Gore also attempted a coup.

It is possible to stack the courts with partisans, and then have those partisans violate the constitution and set the stage for the partisans in the senate to sit a dictator.

Bringing legal challenges that obviously have zero merit in the hopes of either getting favorable rulings from judges or having legislatures usurp the power of choosing electors from the voters is an attempt at a coup.

As others mentioned, Google ‘judicial coup’ and educate yourself.

I did a search for judicial coup and it returned some fringe blogs. Since you are so certain the term applies, I am sure you can provide links from reputable mainstream sites to prove me wrong.

Also, the thread title does not specify judicial coup. The common use of the term is how I explained it.
 
Some of the shit I was worried about has not come to pass, starting with election day and the vote counts and certification, etc. This coup has been stopped overwhelmingly by "some" Republicans. Over and over again Judges, elected officials and representatives have stepped up to the plate. Many of them open Trump supporters or appointees and they shut his shit down. It's something about checks and balances to be optimistic about.

Where we are failing is that a huge percentage of the population doesn’t want any of that to happen. They want democracy to fail, and it seems their numbers are growing. They have enthusiastic agents in government, and their numbers are growing. Our systems relies on rule of law, norms, checks and balances. Those norms have been abandoned and the checks and balances left behind in a partisan race to the extreme. The mushroom may look tasty to eat, but just underneath is a rotting corpse.

This is a pretty common way coups are carried out. Not sure how you didn’t know this but presumably you now agree Trump is attempting a judicial coup, he just happened to fail at it.

So dishonest. At no point did Gore claim the process was illegitimate or fraudulent. He just called for recounts as allowed by Florida law. Call it what you want, an attempted coup or not a coup, Trump attempts to overturn the election and will obviously seize power if he can find a way. Maybe he'll call up the brownshirts on standby to try to stop the meeting of the electoral college in key states on Monday-

That sounds like a military coup to me, and not at all applicable to what is currently happening in the United States. Similarly, the OP linked an Atlantic article that framed the discussion in terms of how coup’s are commonly understood. Nothing stopping you from starting a thread to assert this is a judicial coup.

I don’t believe allegations of fraudulent elections are part of the criteria. If judicial coup’s are a thing, then we’re lucky the nation survived the Gore coup attempt.

So dishonest. Gore requested a hand recount. Something That Trump has had 4 or 5 of.

But Bush Et Al contested the hand recount that the FL supreme court ordered and the US supreme court stopped it.

If anything, the 2000 election was a bit of a judicial coup for Bush, not Gore.

But yeah. Even though you have everything backwards and you're incapable of just admitting you were mistaken, sure....

Aren’t you embarrassed by this level of dishonesty?

Gore filed a lawsuit to ask for a recount of already cast votes. Trump is asking for the votes of entire states to be invalidated en masse, disenfranchising millions. Gore’s standard for asking for this is that the results were extremely close. Trump’s standard for asking for this is fraudulent allegations he and his followers invented.

I get it, you have an incredibly hard time admitting you’re wrong and when you get backed into a corner you get childish and defensive. You talked about something you didn’t understand and now you do. Shouldn’t that be enough?
