No kidding. By the 6th round it was like digging through the waivers. There were a couple diamonds hiding in there but overall that draft was one of the more surgical ones I've been in. No reaching for players and all significant talent was sucked up early.

Agreed. Felt like I had to be on top of my game and then also figure out which high upside guys to take.

We can only have 4 RB's and WR's, 3 QB's, 2 TE's

Currently my roster is:

-Drew Brees (QB)
-MJD (RB)
-Frank Gore (RB)
-Calvin Johnson (WR)
-Julio Jones (WR)
-Zach Sudfeld (TE)
-Jacoby Jones (Flex)
-Cleveland Browns (D/ST)
-Matt Prater (K)

-Gronkowski (TE)
-Eric Decker (WR)
-DeMarco Murray (RB)
-Knowshon Moreno (RB) (dropping him for Bradshaw, will drop Bradshaw for Bush if I get him)
-Alex Smith (QB)
-Ravens D (D/ST)

Sam Bradford also was dropped to Waivers, so my second claim on Waivers tonight will be to drop the Ravens D for him. I don't need him, and don't really care for him, but I think my gf wants him as her QB2 (she has Wilson and Freeman). So I'll snag Bradford if I can to use as a bargaining chip as part of a package deal for Alfred Morris. I REALLY wanted him again this year, but she scooped him up before me at the draft.

Keep in mind that Jacoby Jones is still a #3 receiver on the ravens and not a big red zone threat, Dickson and Smith are. Yahoo is only giving him 2 out of 5 stars for this game, so I would definitely not start him in FLEX.
Matchup Rating
(9/5 @Den)
Averaged just 4.8 FPPG in 2012 and the Denver D was one of the toughest for WRs, allowing 28.34 FPPG but Denver can be tested deep.

Personally I love JJones (and the Ravens) and want him to kick some major ass tonight - he may get some deep strikes like last year's playoffs. However, that's my heart thinking and not my brain which would say Reggie Bush all the way, no way in hell a RB23 is starting over a WR59 (my listings) in any league, especially with the shortage at Running Back position this year. Even with the kickoff yardage factored in, it's still not going to be close.

My question is why are you starting the Cleveland D? They're not a top 10 Defense in any league, while many consider the Ravens to be top 10. My list is Seattle, SF, Houston, Bears, Bengals, Pats, Broncos, Pitt, StL, Green Bay, Ravens, Dallas, Miami, TB etc.

This article even had the Ravens at 7th:
http://www.sbnation.com/fantasy/201...-rankings-2013-defense-special-teams-rankings

The Ravens' D has slid down in many rankings with the departures of Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Bernard Pollard, Paul Kruger, Dannell Ellerbe, Cary Williams, Edgar Allan Poe, Babe Ruth, and Omar from The Wire. For me, though, I see a team that has added Dumervil and others, and will theoretically have full, healthy years out of guys like Terrell Suggs and Lardarius Webb, and I slot them in at seventh. Considering the Ravens are bar-none my least favorite team in the world, both last year's playoffs and this ranking hurt me.

I think they'll still be a top 10 defense, and I can't say that about Cleveland. FWIW I'd start the Ravens if I couldn't get a different top 10 defense and drop Cleveland asap.

Another minor factor to consider - I doubt there will be a whole lot of kickoff returns tonight since the game is in Denver. High altitude = thinner air = kickoffs travel further = touchbacks.

Having Jacoby Jones on your bench might be a great idea if he has some kind of crazy inexplicable breakout game, but if that does happen, you should try to trade him! Some people are predicting him to be this year's Laurent Robinson/Kevin Ogletree.

Damn. Thanks for this advice. I'm starting to develop a man crush on you guys, haha. Seriously though, I didn't think the Ravens D was all that good. Your evidence is a compelling case to the contrary. I'll start em tonight, and I'll move Jacoby out of Flex for now and hopefully pick up Reggie tonight to put him in there.

My logic in not starting the Ravens D instead of the Browns D was simply I think the Broncos will score a lot on the Ravens, where as it's doubtful Miami would do the same to the Browns. Am I misguided there?

As for the Browns, I just took them at the draft based on rankings at the time. All the really good D's were gobbled up by then. The only other one available to me, that's on your list, is Green Bay.

I had planned on dropping the Ravens for Bradford if I could get him on Waivers tonight, but after some thought I think I'll drop the Browns for Bradford instead (I just want Bradford as a bargaining chip for trading, Brees and A. Smith are good enough for me, I don't need three QB's).

Slight problem with your statement.

1) Eli doesn't have a knee that's had 3 surgeries on it.
2) Eli has a slightly better O-Line, although barely with the preseason injuries (before preseason it was eons better).
3) Eli doesn't run as much and get smacked down as much.
=
Eli is a safer pick than RG3 to have more points at the end of the season comparing head to head (assuming injury). RG3 will be lucky to make it to week 10 IF he runs as much as last year. IF he does not (in order to protect his knee) run as much and just stays pocket passer like Eli, Eli has a good shot at beating him head to head since they both have great weapons (Eli getting the edge at WR and Washington at RB for targets).

that's a ridiculous statement. rg3 didn't get injured because he ran the way he runs. he got injured because he took a fluke hit to the knee. he learned his lesson to slide because of the fluke hit. problem solved.

So who, like me has Julius Thomas in their leagues? I had him as a second tight end in several leagues but didn't start him in any of them. Oops.s I honestly expected a break out game like this at some point this season but not in the first game.

I'd be surprised if anyone outside of Bronco fans have picked him up. We've seen how he looks like Jimmy Graham on the field during practice and I honestly believe he might be close to that good or at the very least a top 10 TE for the rest of the season.

Picked him up 2nd to last round in one of my leagues, and started him LIKE A BOSS!

I've pondered grabbing him as a TE2 but never a TE1. But yeah, he might be legit considering that Peyton has now noticed him.

Well I guess drafting Wes Welker as my #3 WR in my ppr league might work out great for the season.

I would not say that the Ravens D is bad but the Broncos are just that good on offense.

I think you'll see defenses react a bit different and Decker and D. Thomas will have more looks as they cheat in on Welker. He's still a master of the creases and will get his catches, but you'll see some adjustment on the defense side.

The addition of Julius Thomas and his game tonight in combination to Welker and the other Thomas and Decker has to give some DC's heartburn though.

Still, in a ppr Welker as a #3 is gold. I'm not buying into Julius Thomas just yet, dont forget last season how many tight ends would have great games then fall of the radar the next game. That said I do have Sudfeld on my bench in a few leagues

Sometimes it pays to be desperate. I started Julius Thomas in a couple leagues after turning sour on the tight ends I originally drafted.

You'll regret it if you don't pick him up but if you dont someone else in your league will. He is a clear cut #1 TE when last year we were using 2-3 TE in the game, Julius has been in the game nearly 100% of the time

Well, no offense (and I say this with love) but fuck my earlier statement of having a man crush on you guys. Starting the Ravens D is murdering me. The salt in the wound is my opponent, a first year guy in our league, sat Matt Ryan and played Peyton. Fuuuuuuuck me.

You want even more salt in the wound??? I went with my gut instead of the advice here on Jacoby Jones in my flex, and started him tonight (his file photo was fucking hilarious btw), and I was feeling really good about that. That was until ANOTHER FUCKING RAVEN TOOK HIM OUT OMGWTFBBQSAUCE!?!?!?! GAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

Right now Prater was the only thing keeping me from being in negative points while my opponent is sitting in the 60's with Peyton, Torrey Smith, and the Broncos D.

It's just a game right....serenity now....

We did an auction draft, though apparently the cost you purchase a player doesn't matter for the rest of the season in terms of trading. Here's my team in an oddly formatted league. QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 2 flex. League counts return yards. I won last year, think I have it again this year already based on draft.

Week 1 Starting lineup and bench.

QB: P. Manning
WR: R. Cobb (return yards too? god)
WR: J. Nelson
WR: V. Jackson
RB: T. Richardson
RB: D. Sproles (return yards count, so he rocks)
Flex: M. Jones Drew
Flex: R. Bush
K: J. Tucker

This is where I think I have the league... my bench.

WR: G. Jennings
WR: D. Bowe
RB: D. McFadden
RB: L. Miller
RB: D. Woodehead
RB: Bryce Brown
RB: R. Hillman

Since there are two flex spots I basically always play with four running backs, and I got some seriously good ones just sitting on my bench. When my QB comes up for their bye week I drop a Defensive player and pick up a sub. There are usually replacements available even if there is a major injury with QBs.

We pick defensive players, I won't list them but they are also stacked (have some special team yards there as well).

Edit: This was the first time the league did an auction draft, we had $200 for all of our players. I just think most people spent WAY too much on a few key players, whereas I never spent more than $30 on a player. Better to have a team with good players and good backups than having all your money in two players...

You started Ravens D? Sorry dude. I thought you were talked out of that. Yeah, no way I would have played them against an angry Peyton and with as many people as they lost from last year.

that is why you don't waste anything but a 2nd to last round pick on a defense...you can't start ANY defense every week

Anyone ever play in the games on FanDuel or the like? If you're not familiar, you pay an entry fee ($1-535) to play each week. You then get $60K in salary cap to buy up your team (QB, 2xRB, 3xWR, TE, K, D/ST). Then it's pretty much a standard PPR scoring and if your team scores enough, you win some of the pot. Then you can do it all again the next week.

Figured it's fantasy-ish and worthy of discussion in this thread as well if there's interest. Here's my team for this week.

QB: Andrew Luck v OAK ($8500)
RB: Reggie Bush v MIN ($7200)
RB: Stevan Ridley @ BUF ($7100)
WR: Reggie Wayne v OAK ($6700)
WR: Dwayne Bowe @ JAC ($6800)
WR: Andre Johnson @ SD ($7400)
TE: Jermaine Gresham @ CHI ($5400)
K: Stephen Gostkowski @ BUF ($5400)
D: Seattle v CAR ($5700)

I'm wondering though if I pick up the Patriot's D for $300 cheaper and use that money to upgrade Andre Johnson to Roddy White, would it be better.

patriots D is arguably a better play, so for less money it's an easy choice. unless you are afraid that too many people are picking NE D

So in one league my opponent started Peyton Manning so obviously I am fighting an uphill battle. I have Gronk on the bench, if he is declared active should I just start him and swing for the fences vs starting Jared Cook or Zach Sudfeld?

I used to do a similar format on espn, only once you'e bought a player at a certain value, they are locked in. So if you wait to swoop in on talent, you paid higher.
