<< I'll admit I am not schooled in aerodynamics...but how the hell can a rear wing help traction/maneuverabilty on a front wheel drive? >>

Nothing.

All the ones you see on the street are set at a 0° angle of attack.

Now what good does that do?

First, yes, it definitely looks like a "rice" car.

<<If this is what rice is, why is there so much vitriol about it? It just looks to me like kids doing what kids do. Every generation has it's own quirks and styles that it calls it own. I don't see where this is any different.>>

Honestly, you're right that it's just what kids do. Despite this, I think that what bothers most of us here is that it's completely superficial and in many cases the car actually performs worse than it did when stock. I know this seems odd that it would bother us, but consider the type of people assembled here. By and large the people here are more concerned with what goes on "under the hood" and don't care about ornamentation as long as the product works well. (Witness the large number of people here who have never had the case cover on their computer.) The idea behind "ricing" a car is completely opposite this view and I have a feeling that most of us simply are not able to understand why someone would spend thousands of dollars on parts to make his car look faster when that person could have spent the same amount of money on the engine and transmission and actually made the car go faster. Essentially, I think that the idea of "rice" simply runs 180 degrees from the way most of us think and that we dislike it because we view it as a waste. Also, many people who drive "riced" cars tend to be a little slight on the driving skills. Just my opinion and idea, however. If anyone has a better theory, I'm quite open to it.

Adul,

Not mine, but I was thinking of it as a template for when I "rice up" my Aerostar cargo van.🙂

Judging by the engine mods, I'd bet he's got a pretty quick little car on his hands. The Si base, with the intake/exaust and underdrive kit I bet he's pulling ~200bhp, which is respectable. The suspension mods would make the car fun to drive too.

A shame the car looks like ass. *shrug*

<< i dunno, what's it got under the hood? >>

rice has nothing to do with what is under the hood...it has to do what is stuck on to the hood (paint stickers etc..)
>>

you are very wrong sir. Rice is when that car can only run 15 sec quarter miles, cuz it has nothin under the hood. If that car had a stage 4 turbo running 12 sec quater miles, i'd say that car was great, cuz it looks fast, and it is fast.

But... that car has nothing.

AEM ADJUSTABLE TIMING GEAR
AEM COLD AIR INTAKE
AEM UNDERDRIVE PULLEY'S
DC CERAMIC HEADERS
TANABE RACING MEDALLION CAT-BACK EXAUST

give me a break, those are all junk. I bet he cant hit 14.5 quarter miles.

AH!!! My eyes!

That is MAJOR RICE!

Holy sh*t! If that kid had been any smarter, he/she would have gotten a better car in the first place!!!

i don't think that car looks so bad

Heck, even though it is nearly all stock, whatever floats the owner's boat, so be it. I do hate ppl who begin to weave in-n-out of traffic, cut ppl off, etc, just because they have a lowered car.

<< does the FAA have jurisdiction over that civic? man.... it looks like a plane to me. >>

With the right engine, that might be able to take off.

<< is this rice? >>

its a San Fransisco treat!...just ask moonbeam

<< HISTORY OF RICERS...I think Viets and Philipinos originated the term,Ricer Cars

>>

actually the term, I believe, originated from the term "rice rockets" from the late 70's in reference to the japanese motorcycles coming out at the time

<< j0lly... i just watched that earlier today, but I found it at mkiv.com >>

Thanks for the link. I knew the full length existed somewhere. 🙂

I concur.. With the money spent getting the car and cosmetic mods, this ricer could have gotten a 3rd generation RX-7 turbo that can pretty much keep up with almost any stock muscle cars of today and yester years..

I saw this car...I think it was a Toyota Celica from like 89-92 I think and it had this purple neon light under the car and since it was dark out there was this bright purple spot under the car and this hue of purple radiating out...RICE! Oh, chrome wheels too...but it was dark and I was distracted by the light so i didn't check out anything else. 🙂

hehe, i love how people talk sh|t about cars..yet they have no wheels to back it up.

russ was right in his first post...the rest are just haters...but egh...no point in teaching...nm.
