Is this rice?

You guys are always talking about "riced" cars, so I'm trying to get a handle on exactly what it is. We don't seem to have any of this here in my area (maybe I just can't see them behind the pickup trucks with rifle racks).

If this is what rice is, why is there so much vitriol about it? It just looks to me like kids doing what kids do. Every generation has it's own quirks and styles that it calls it own. I don't see where this is any different.

that looks hideous. Now if the car could actually go 150-200mph to use the aerodynamics, sure then thats cool, but if its all show and no go, then its rice.

I can respect a rally car or race car, but its gotta have balls. Plus all that crap would probably fall of if the car ever got near 150mph..

Rice is all show and no-go. Looking from the size of those Tanabe stickers, maybe he has a sponsorship of some sort. (I would not spend that much money on an EX on body kits, carbon fiber hood, spoiler, decked out interior and not do some serious $hit under the hood)

I'm not even into sports car, but i would say that's a nice looking car... i just wouldn't have those dumb stickers unless they really were endorsing me.

<< i dunno, what's it got under the hood? >>

rice has nothing to do with what is under the hood...it has to do what is stuck on to the hood (paint stickers etc..)

HISTORY OF RICERS

I think Viets and Philipinos originated the term,Ricer Cars

Because they'd barely afford cheap cars like Accord and Sonata, (even Elentra!!) and Rice it up with accessories.. as if the car is even worth pimping it up. It is also accompanied by poor taste in accessorizing.. such as ugly stickers..etc..

The Japanese/Koreans/Chinese saw this and started to make fun of them by calling them Ricers

now there's a lil history for ya..

That is rice, but it actually looks well done. That is to say, all the stuff appears to be nicely attached and finished... and if the car was actually fast (it could be, you never know) then it doesn't necessarily count.

Imagine all that stuff, but not realy attached very well at the seams, some more "homemade" parts added here and there, and the car's engine etc is still stock - that would be rice.

NO matter what is under the hood, that is rice.

Look at that ugly wing on the back. It provides no practical use whatsoever.

It's hard to tell from just the pic since we don't know what kind of hardware mods was done to the car. I suspect with all the surgery done to the outside of the car, there will be some major operations done inside. I herad Civic engines can be modded to 900 horsepower so (uh) never underestimate the outside (rice-wannabe) look.

It's not rice, just a tad too much for my taste. I like body kits with little or no extra images or graffiti.

Yes I think that would be. However, I don't think that one looks too bad.
The problem is that so many people are completely lacking in taste, (and money to make it look right)
I've seen some god awful cars driving around here.

ex: civic with an enormous wing on the back, looks like they hacked a DC-10 and glued the tail to the trunk
body effects that are not painted, or are cheap plastic or fiberglass that doesn't fit well
enormous, obnoxious exh. tips
repainting the car (or just parts) w/ really tacky colors.
Just changing a part does not mean it looks better (esp. clear taillights!!!)

This is not limited to the import community, many bad looking 2wd pikups too, and many other cars, old mustangs and cameros, musclecars, anything can look bad if you don't do it right.

Whats so surprizing is how much money some people spend to make their cars look really ugly, and themselves like jackasses.:disgust:

I'll admit I am not schooled in aerodynamics...but how the hell can a rear wing help traction/maneuverabilty on a front wheel drive?
