I should be able to buy as much gas as I want. I want to fill up while gas prices are lower than it will be the next time. I don't want to fill up halfway to pay more for the other half later.

Pre-paying for gas it just to much of a pain in the ass. I just leave the pump and got to store that don't treat me like a thief.

Well this I certainly have to agree with. I would not pay either. However, you never know what your circumstances might be, and if you continue to allow this behavior and don't start reporting this, it will bite all of us in the butt later on down the road... capiche?

Apathy does nothing for anybody in these type situations....

I totally agree that something needs to be done. I just never have liked dealing with the cashiers at gas stations.

Its privately run. Don't like it, go to another gas station.

He's an asshole, but you're also one for thinking its your right to buy it from them. Its like being beligerent at a bar and throwing a 20 at the bartender after he cuts you off saying its your right to buy beer.

The guy is trying to pocket the extra cash. Offer to call the police for him. I'd get an even 20 in gas, and then write down the employees name. Next time you're there speak to a manager.

You = wrong. Anywasy OP, most gas stations are prepay only, when you are not paying at the pump you have to give the cashier money before you can fill up. Normally when you go in it's because you are paying cash, and it's pretty standard to say "put $20 in pump #3" however, if you use only $19.97 to fill up, they *must* give you $.03 change when you go back in. My guess is the guy was trying to be a hardass because he works at a gas station and has no life, or you misinterpreted the situation.

Uh, no. I asked him specifically if I put $32 in, and I charged $40, will I get change back? He said NO. There is no way to give me back the $8 in change.

It's not to hard to understand someone when they are trying to rob you.

I guess you can't read? If you could I'm sure that you would have actually *read* what I posted. I told Pepsi90919 that it was not legal for them to keep the change. Further, I stated that it was probably the gas station attendant on a power trip, but now that I've seen how lacking your communication skills seem to be, I'm more inclined to believe my second assertion, that you misinterpreted the situation.

Once in there, I had to pick an amount for them to charge my card. I chose $50.

I pumped my gas and the total was $35. I went back in to get a credit for $15 placed back on my card.

It is now 4/23 and the credit still has NOT shown up in my bank account. I contacted the bank and was told that companies have 60 days to issue a credit.

Nice. That means the gas company has had MY $15 (remember this came ffom my bank account) for almost 2 months without having to pay interest.

On top of that, it won't be much longer before the 60 day deadline is up...and I am aniticipating a hassle getting the money back. I am peeved!

CLIFFs: I will NEVER pre-pay on my card again anticipating a credit back to my account.

You should have run it as DEBIT inside. Running it as credit just doesn't make any sense unless the store does not accept debit. Had you run it as debit you would have received a cash refund on the spot.

Chances are it is illegal. The sign saying 3.00 dollars a gallon means you can purchase any amount of gas for 3.00 dollars a gallon. It is consider bait and switch to advertise one price and then when a customer goes to purchase it they change the price.

Additionally that would really screw with how there taxes are paid and most likely would result in one form of tax fraud or another.

Would it be better if they sat around at home watching MTV and playing video games while mommy and daddy paid their way through life? You think they WANT to be making minimum wage? You think they WANT to be working a job that won't take them too far? Is it so glorifying to you to hold something like that over them because your job is so damn amazing and you've somehow earned the right to tell people that they aren't good enough to make a sh!tty wage? Go fvck yourself.

I don't think it'd fall under bait and switch considering gas IS $3 a gallon, you just don't get change back. If you had put in 21 bucks, you would get 7 gallons of gas. Back when Katrina hit, there were tons of gas stations that wouldn't sell more then $100 worth of gas at a time (think big SUV's that take premium) and if this falls under bait and switch, so would that. I'm in no way condoning what the attendant did, but I don't agree with the "right" to buy all the gas he wants at that price.

There really isn't. I walked out after he threatened to call the police. I guess that I wasn't the first one to complain about this, and that was his quick way to get out of an argument.

Nowhere in the rant did amdhunter mention the age of the attendant in question. Why would anyone assume he was a teenager?

A limit is comptelly different then changing the price structor. In the case of a 100 dollar limit they are still selling at 3.00 dollars a gallon. With this idea they are no longer selling gas at 3.00 dollars a gallon. But 3.33 gallons of gas for 10 dollars.

one of the reasons they do this is probably because they have had too many drive offs
(so the pre-pay is understandable)

but the fashion in which they enforce it is stupid (i.e. no change, or just holding your licence and CC)

One woman, but she kept busy and hidden sorting stuff on shelves. There were about 2-3 customers looking at me intently to see what would be the outcome of my bitching was.
