Deciding whether your boyfriend is good enough for you?

I am single. This is my money. You do not need to be rude. Please leave.

and who the hell do you think you are? noob.

I'm not using a boyfriend's money, as the previous poster suggested. You are daft and unintelligent. How unfortunate.

Wrong, he is the average ATOTer. You're the one who is unintelligent coming to a tech OT forum to find if your wages measures up to everybody else's e-weiner. GTFO. This is the internet. Either grow some metaphorical balls or get the sand out of your vagina.

Wrong. You are socially inept. You don't understand.

It takes a whole lot to use a screnname as an insult ;) Yay synonyms.

Where? LA, Maybe not.
Modesto, yes.

Please elaborate.

Cost of living is higher in LA than it is in Modesto. Therefore, you get more for 80k in Modesto than you would in LA.

Ahh, you're leading him astray! His question was "Is $80k a year good enough these days compared to the populous?".

$80k is not nearly enough to 'entice' me to live in Modesto. What a hole. The population of Modesto warrants much more than $80k.

Does the town still stink when the candle rendering plant gets going in the summer?

Candle rendering?

Happily, the rendering plant is GONE! (yay for our noses!)

IMO, Modesto isn't as bad as Sacratomato...which only has the benefit of being a bigger city...plus you have to deal with Ah-nold coming to town once in a while...:p

I love it... some dumbass noob trying to tell us how it is. Clearly she'll do well here. ;)

1080 / month rent
300 / month food
300 / month utilities
40 / month car insurance
no car payment
had furniture
drove about 200 miles a month so gas wasnt an issue. paid more in rent to live closer to work so I could walk

this left about 600 / month for my credit card and fun.

This is an exceedingly low financial expectation for the average person. Many of those figures are not realistic.

Thank you for sharing though, it's interesting.

This is completely doable. For my wife and I we live off of something like this...

850 rent
400 food
150 utilities
70 cable and internet
no car payment (buy older used, pay cash)
100 car insurance (3 cars, 2 drivers)
65 student loan
200+ for gas

We don't lead boring lives. While we don't have all brand new furniture or electronics we'll add something nice every few months. We take about 3 vacations a year (One week with my wife's family, one with my family, and then fly to NY for Christmas). We probably spend $1500-2000 in air fare a year. We could easily afford a car payment if we didn't have high savings goals (22% of my income is saved or donated in one way or the other).

My wife doesn't work a full time job because she is going to school but over the year she'll make maybe $5k doing substitute teaching and a scholarship. I make about $60k. We do just fine. If you can't live off of $80k there is something seriously wrong.

It's pretty simple really. The fact that you asked this question means you are an attention whore. No, I don't care if you are a girl. I'm married and she is automatically a much better person than you because she could have figured this out on her own. With that said, you are also stupid for not being able to figure this out on your own. Whoever is offering to pay you $80K has been mislead unless you are soliciting your body or some other non-intellectual skill or ability.

My wife and I make $100k together and we can afford a house, rental condo even without a renter, car payment, and all of the bills that go along with regular life. We still manage to save over $2k a month without much trouble.

House - $1950
Condo - $1200
Car - $350
Natural Gas avg - $100
Electricity avg - $100
Cable, Internet, Phone - $117
Water/Sewage - $20
Car Insurance - $107
HOA - $58
Food - $250
Gas - $100
Misc - $250

$4602 in monthly expenses
+ $950 monthly rental income
+ $6000 combined monthly income
= $2348 saved

I keep track of every penny we spend in a spreadsheet and these figures are representative of the last 20 months of our lives. Our average monthly savings on $100k pretax is $2348 and that is with several things we could do without. Even if we went a few months without a renter, we'd still be saving over $1k a month paying for TWO houses at the same time. You royally suck if you even have to ask if $80k is enough to live on.

Let's get all of these out of the way while we're at it:
I'm being snide, rude, not worth talking to, can't understand basic English, and there is no benefit to speaking to me.

Lastly, he was implying that you are a Grade A bitch and no man with a correctly functioning brain would put up with your bullshit. I know it was subtle, but that's what he meant.

Fine. add

500 / 6 months car insurance. = 1000
400 / month car payment = 4800

50,200. Don't forget that includes 3000k per month for housing..........

That's an expensive house.

very expensive house.... about 1k more than most people would even think about paying. I just threw some numbers down real quick to actually quantify how much 50k after taxes can buy you.

I'm not sure how someone could afford a house at 3000k a month especially only living on 50k after taxes per year. ;)

you cant. well, you could if you had very few other expenses. it always looks good and doable on paper, but IRL it doesnt work out as squeaky clean.

80k is plenty of cash to live on in most places, just dont expect to move into 90210 or anything.

He wasn't implying that spending $3k/mo on a house was a good idea at that salary. He was showing that it is possible. At least that's what I understood from his post.

You guys make $6000 COMBINED per month? Oh that poor girl...living on top ramen must be like hell. One day she'll drop the zero and get herself a hero.

Nothing personal, just letting you know what will happen soon. Have a good day! :)

^^ I would just like to go on record and say that I was the first person to flame this troll.

You're welcome, everybody. No, seriously, it was my pleasure. No thanks are necessary.;)
