The average person has a higher insurance rate, drives many more miles, and has a car payment.

If you're so freakin smart and know everything about everything, why are you posting this question on this forum?

If you can't figure it out then you're far too stupid to deserve to make that much, since 85% of the entire population makes less than that.

That's unfortunate for them.

Not so much really...that much money is absolutely unnecessary.

I'm in a better situation now but my budget went:

1080 / month rent
300 / month food
300 / month utilities
40 / month car insurance
no car payment
had furniture
drove about 200 miles a month so gas wasnt an issue. paid more in rent to live closer to work so I could walk

this left about 600 / month for my credit card and fun.

This is an exceedingly low financial expectation for the average person. Many of those figures are not realistic.

Thank you for sharing though, it's interesting.

Oh, you're going to be a fun one.

Do you think the AVERAGE person drives 200 miles a month? Not having a car payment is quite rare as well.

Stop being snide.

Driving is a choice. I drive zero "miles" a month.

thats nice i drive something like 1500 miles a month

as for those numbers they are all actually fine,

1080 / month rent - this will verry most depending on area/roomates or not but is eaisily dooable
300 / month food - unless you are a pig thats more then enough
300 / month utilities - itll prob be less depending on whats included with rent
40 / month car insurance - depending on what car you have this could be 100% correct

FWIW my Dad supported a fam of 5 on not much more then 80K a year

Where? LA, Maybe not.
Modesto, yes.

Please elaborate.

Cost of living is higher in LA than it is in Modesto. Therefore, you get more for 80k in Modesto than you would in LA.

Ahh, you're leading him astray! His question was "Is $80k a year good enough these days compared to the populous?".

$80k is not nearly enough to 'entice' me to live in Modesto. What a hole. The population of Modesto warrants much more than $80k.

Does the town still stink when the candle rendering plant gets going in the summer?

why is every response 3-5 words total from crazygirl.

try elaborating on some shit, this thread should just be locked because it's retarded.

it's fucking extremely simple, open up notepad, make a list of things that cost money each money, check it twice, three times even, take your pay (take home after tax + everything else). compare numbers.

again, the OP seems like a complete retard or just showboating maybe.

crazygirl pretty much established herself as a troll from the day she registered.

No logical discussion can emanate from her posts; so get used to it.

It's a decent living, but depending on your rent it will depend on how much free cash you got to play with/ able to save.

Why do people joke that everyone makes 6 figures here? It's obvious that less then 20-25% of guys make that here but a chunk do. And some make well over 6 figures.

I'm not using a boyfriend's money, as the previous poster suggested. You are daft and unintelligent. How unfortunate.

Wrong, he is the average ATOTer. You're the one who is unintelligent coming to a tech OT forum to find if your wages measures up to everybody else's e-weiner. GTFO. This is the internet. Either grow some metaphorical balls or get the sand out of your vagina.

why exactly wouldn't 80k be enough to live in LA? looking at rent prices on craigslist seems plenty to live off of to me.

Yeah, 80K isn't bad here in Modesto. That's about what I made as a crane operator. It allowed us live pretty comfortably...certainly a LONG way from rich...but comfortable.

My wife almost never had to work...she enjoyed the "stay-at-home mom" thing and so did I.

When are we going to dive a reef and get this thing over with? The two sexiest men on ATOT (barring Oldmoboat's self appointed title) sparring over such silly things...

Dive a reef? Nah, not anymore...the old body just won't take that kind of abuse anymore.

I'm not sure when we're gonna get to Maui again...but one of these days... (I need a Cook Kwees fix) :D
