Is this consider rude/impolite?

Let's say you are driving with 2 passengers. You dropped off 1 person who were sitting next to you.

EDIT:
Do you feel uncomfortable or maybe you don't mind if your friend choose to NOT sit in the empy front seat?
Or have you sit in the back seat when the front seat is empty? Do you feel the need to move to the front, why or why not?

Back in my home country I & my friends consider this rude and always move to the empty seat in the front. Last week I got into an argument with my japanese friend. She sat in the back and at first refused to move to the front even though I asked her to move (She lives about 10 minutes from where we were at the time). She finally moved to the front once it's obvious that I was kinda pissed. She told me she doesn't know about this and it's probably a cultural issue. I think this is BS since it's more of a common courtesy, what do you think?

why does it matter, if they sit in the front or back? especially if it was only 10 minute ride and was a friend.

I don't like it when they don't move...but i don't think i'd go so far as to call it rude or impoliet. I usually ask them, "where would you like to go today Miss Daisy!?"

If you're a child or elderly person they usually sat in the back seat. Suppose to be safer than the front. But if it's just a friend should move to the front. It be kind of rude if they don't move.

yea why would it matter? I don't consider it impolite and never heard of this courtesy before. Perhaps she felt awkward sitting in the front?

She is the girlfriend of my friend and I know her at first because she is the girlfriend. The problem is she is very childish (26 yrs old) and lately really get on my nerve but I never say anything.

The problem is, I asked her nicely to move and told her I don't want to feel like her personal driver. She kept insisting on not moving til it's obvious I became pissed. She kept saying this is because she has different culture.
I'm just wondering whether it is, because I will ALWAYS move if the seat in the front is empty. What about you guys?

In Asian culture, the boss or socially higher of rank sit in the back. You are like her driver, therefore by sitting in the back, she is of higher rank.

If you two are friends, then she has no reason to sit in the back unless she wanted to make a point that you were inferior to her. What a nutjob.

Most people want to sit in the front (kids fight over this priviledge). Thus most people will naturally do it. But I have concerns.

[*]Is it rude to be pissed at your friend and demand she move?
[*]Some people get sick in the front seat and are better in the back, is it rude to force them to be sick?
[*]Why do we have to consider where people sit rude? Why can't we have a free country? Why hold on to this baseless notions that a person MUST sit here or else?

Highly doubt that she felt awkward, I drove her alone too before. I'm thinking she gets too comfortable since she know me well now and just have no respect for me (I asked her nicely to move to the front). I doubt she'll refuse to move if I just know her.

yea I've always considered riding shotgun to be the best seat, never thought about the driver/chauffeur angle before though...

1. I didn't get pissed right away, I ask her whether she can move and first I thought she was playing when she insist on not moving.

You'll feel uncomfortable if you raised with this sort of culture before too, I guess western culture does not have this issue. But for some Asian country, only Boss sits alone in the back separate from the driver. The problem is if I feel uncomfortable and clearly show it to her, why the hell she didn't offer to move until it's really apparent that I was angry.
