This is amazingly untrue. The items might be there, but northeasterners work their magic and remove the flavor out of the food. Except pizza. I don't know how that survives up there in the land of bland, but it does. Also you have horrible coffee up there.

We don't remove the flavor, it's just that we don't fry our vegetables in bacon grease.
And therefore, your vegetables suck.

Southern cooking > any

I like Italian, too, but there's plenty of Italian restaurants down here run by transplanted yankees....just as good as the Italian places up north.

I grew up in the South (Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas areas) for the last 20something years and I have been to many places in the US (CA, NV, MS, GA, IN, IL, FL, NY, NJ) and out of the country. Here are my take on pros and cons:

Pros = friendlier than Northerners, more laid back, lower cost of living (especially housing comparing to Southern California and Northeast areas), better traffic and almost no toll roads, better food (especially bbq and greasy foods).

Cons = heat + humidity => very hot in July and August, less sophisticate than Northerners (especially in politics), bad local government (county/parish and state) probably because the same crooks got reelected over and over again ("fast eddie" Edward, "cold cash" Jefferson and "chocolate" Nagin just to name a few). less college educated. too much "let me save your soul" faked Christians.

Last but not least, soft drink = soda, NOT pop :D

You people keep talking about corrupt Southern politics like there's no corruption or crooks in northern governments. Give me a freaking break.

Intelligent Southern people are just as smart as intelligent northern people.

Dumb northerners are just as dumb as dumb Southerners. Except that there are more of the dummies up north. The north=more people total, so you have more dummies, too.
But I'd be willing to bet the percentages aren't much different.

Plus, ya'll don't know how to drive....you don't know the rules of the road...years of driving tests have proven that northerners tend to score lower on driving tests.

Only some of the people are nice, the rest are just as stand offish. But everyone moves as slow as molasses. Everytime i go to a fast food restaurant the workers either dont even look at me when they're taking my order or they're giving me the stink eye. Half the time they dont even hear me the first time because they're talking to someone else. And the weather. During the summer it's like the devil's ass crack. So ****** hot and humid it drives me nuts, not to mention the pollen count. People are generally less educated than the north. oh and this: http://www.cnn.com/2007/EDUCATION/04/22/integrated.prom.ap/index.html

My ideal is Seattle. Everyone is nice but not friendly to the point of intrusive. People are politically informed, openminded and enjoy an active life style. People in restaurants and other service oriented jobs do their work quickly and efficiently. Relatively low crime rate compared to most large cities. I dont really mind the rain so that's a nonfactor for me.

You are not kidding. I visited a few cities in the south when I thought about moving there and this was immediately apparent. Drove me up the f*cking wall. Snow ain't that bad, I guess. Maybe I can tolerate Austin.

Like I said, if I had to move to another region, I'd try Seattle. It makes me sad that New Orleans is so large though. It doesn't allow Biloxi to really grow. That's where I'd like to be at.

My state isn't declared a disaster area after receiving 1" of snow ;)

Nothing to do with the drivers. We don't have, or need, all the equipment for road clearing down here.

Besides, most of the wrecks during inclement weather down here are caused by yankees who think they know how to drive in the snow just because they're from up north.
They forget, the snow removal is much better up there, and rightfully so.

I've realized as I've spent a few summers out in Rochester NY now that I need to be in New England. It is the only place that satisfies my demands.

Snow. Mountains. Ocean.

The south has none of those, and don't even get me started on the freaking humidity. Gahhhhhh!!!!

I have snow, mountains and large lake/rivers.

I don't really like the ocean so it doesn't matter.

Humidity is great for your skin. I lived in Eugene and Seattle, this desert is hard on you skin.

Some things you must know

1) Florida is NOT part of the south...
- Everyone in the south hates FL, especially Miami, the only useful thing FL has to offer is some beachs and disney world...

2) southern hospitality > *
- your car beaks down in the middle of a neighborhood when looking for someone. you dont have a cell phone. knock on a door and someone will invite you in, offer you some tea, and let you use their phone. Now in just about any other part of the US, knock on a door and it wont be answered or itll be slammed in your face. Why? i'm not sure but i guess its because they are scared or just rude. southerners arent scared because you have to be goddamn stupid to try to mess with a southern while he is in his own home

3) Alabama/Northwestern FL have the BEST beaches on the planet. Good enough that japan had to buy our sand for their indoor ocean :)
- Just plain fact...

4) people in the south are just like people everywhere in the US except that they are more polite
- Unfortunately, we have our fair share of emos, gangsters, hippies, and goths as just about anyone...and it sucks. While sourtherns may be more polite, they may still hate you or talk badly about you. southerners also hate inbreds just as much as anyone.

5) the south has its fair share of bible lovin' folk but there is still some religious diveresity. But, you cant turly dislike a region just because the majority believes in christianity can you? doesnt that defy your 'open minded' acceptance crap you preach about in California and NY?Personally i find people from the non-south to be JUST as close minded as those from it...

6) racists
- racists are everywhere and i highly doubt they are more conglomerated in the south vs. anywhere else. the only reason we have this bad image is because of events in history...maybe one day people will realize how long ago that was and how stupid it is to not let anything go.

that page that was whining about southerner's wanting our rights to bear arms...well, sorry if we like our rights, wtf is wrong with people? obviously banning CCW's in NYC has not decreased crime...nor has gun control laws...how long will it be until the GP understands that gun control is completely useless and only harms law abiding citizens

*sigh* one day people will realize how glorious the south is...

I wouldn't say that they are nicer, but they seem nicer beceause they are much more laid back. Other than that, they can be as rude and as ignorant as any northener. As for the racist thing, I think people down there are little more close minded, but people in the north seem to show that same closed mindedness at times, but they do not seem to realize it.
