Closest would have been Michael Jordan while playing with the bulls in the late 90's.

Yes. Agreed.

Obama comes to mind. The Pope is a maybe. Realize, Michael Jackson was wildly popular worldwide, not just in North America and Europe. I doubt that other Western entertainers or basketball stars are as loved in Gabon and the Philippines as much or more as they are here.

For another death to have the impact of Michael's, it must be political.

ROFLcopter at Kobe Bryant. Wtf. It wouldn't even make the news in half the world.

Madonna would be big news. Obama of course. Prince William or Harry perhaps...(more so than the queen since she's old).

Jackson came a good 2 DECADES before Jordan, lest you forget this obvious fact.

Moonwalker was a nickname before airwalker, lest you forget this.

(besides, DT--David Thompson--was called air walker before Jordan ever was; DT being idolized by the young and anonymous Jordan)

Bill Clinton, I also agree with either Prince William or Harry (would bring Diana memories too), Nelson Mandela?

That's a major part why no one could equal the buzz that Michael Jackson makes. He did what he did for 4 decades+.

Fwiw, Jackson's moonwalk itself isn't an official moonwalk, which is a different popper's dance, but jackson's dance got coined moonwalk anyways.

As for Jordan, he was never called 'air walker'. Just 'air jordan'. ;) Lots of nick's get recycled tho...there must be atleast 10 'junk yard dogs' to have played in the nba. :D

The pope would get some of the same people who mourn Michael Jackson.

I mean... Michael Jackson molested little boys.
But the pope presides over tons of people that molest little boys.

Yeah, I have no fucking idea who that is. Note to Americans: no one in the world outside of USA gives a shit about your athletes. Seriously. I care as much about Michael Jordan as you do about Tana Umaga, a beloved athlete in my country. If Michael Jordan died tomorrow if might make a 30 second spot on the news.

Edit - Lance Armstrong would elicit a strong reaction from the news, but no where even close to this ridiculous MJ reaction.

then i would advise you to quit this forum and stay on a NZ based forum to ramble on about NZ based bullshit no one else (other than NZ based asshats) cares about and quit posting "who?!?!?!" in every thread on this US based forum where someone from the US dies and someone from the US posts about them dieing.
