Who else is as famous AND beloved internationally as Michael Jackson was?

What if Oprah suddenly died? hmmm...not sure if people would crowd the hospitals & be crying out the streets.

Kobe Bryant? He's pretty popular & beloved around the world. Not sure if he's beloved in the U.S., though there is a difference between people hating him & "basketball hating" him because he plays on the opposite team.

Stevie Wonder?

David Beckham?

Justin Timberlake?

Basically, who's the 2nd most famous person in the world today, whose death would create a similar international reaction to MJ's death?

Your mom. She's known to the Western Hemisphere for her cheap rates.

Haha I'm just playin' man. You seem like a cool guy and I'm sure we'd be good friends. Well, replace good friends with acquaintances.

They were discussing this on Dan Patrick's show the other day. I thought Oprah was a good one, but Obama would be an insane one.

Princess Diana was more famous and beloved.

Presently Bill Gates, Obama, Tiger.

doh, can't believe i didn't mention Obama.

Let's add Muhammad Ali, though it's harder to go crazy over a person who is aging & declining. The death isn't as shocking.

Celine Dion? Isn't she ridiculously famous & beloved overseas?

Madonna is a better comparison.

I don't think any celebrities listed including Obama would create a larger buzz, but maybe close. Obama is still relatively new, yes he's the president of the *US* but MJ was known worldwide and has been known worldwide for years and years and is worshipped by a *ton* of people, not to mention including all the haters with the MJ jokes, add that on and I don't think there will ever be a more epic post-death buzz.

I obviously can't speak for the rest of the world but I'm fairly certain that in NZ and places like it the death of Obama (or any US president) would be a much bigger deal. But maybe I'm biased because I consider MJ's death little more than another boring celebrity gossip column.

Edit - I should clarify: current US president.

Yeah, I concur, Jordan was not on the global scale as much as Jackson was.

I think Oprah would raise some eyebrows. I was just thinking about that the other day.

Paul McCartney, maybe?

Probably. Espeically our dear Obama.

He might be the closest, but otherwise no one. Michael Jordan's premature death would rock the world, but not the same emotional way that Jackson's has.
