One good reason why there would be is to assume we know everything, based on this planet, based on our understanding and observance. It just isn't that simple to a scientific mind, based on our observations.

It would be reasonable to assume the more likely scenario that there isn't an afterlife. A universe that holds humans to be the center of attention would be an enormously more strange place than one that pays no attention to humans.

We understand the universe about as much as we understand the afterlife. I never said humans are the center, only that's our POV.

Evidence in the scientific sense, that is reproducible under controlled conditions and stands up to peer review? Please cite some.

If there is an afterlife, one thing is very probable, we do not control how it exists, what form it would take, what form we would take, etc. So consider it another roll of the dice. The entire belief of an afterlife hinges on your thoughts on whether we have "spirits" and that mentality. Because if you don't believe we have a spirit, then everything you are will go down with the ship when you die.

The most likely scenario? When you die you cease to exist. Try to wrap your head around that for a few hours. It is impossible to imagine not existing. Now wrap your head around this, the world was around long before you, where were you in 1920, 1850, 1300, 750? Do you recall any conscious memories from then? So maybe you will come into the realization that your only basis of reality has come from the time you were born. Yet your hope is that it will remain long after you die. Very, very wishful thinking.
