Is the Colbert show really failing?

Samantha Bee's new weekly show is pretty good, too.
Yeah, I mostly like that show but Sam needs to slow down. She blows through her monologues like she's being chased by pack of Texas auctioneers.

I think Colbert might go the way of Conan and get his own show on a cable network. Sort of like Oliver, the only question would be if he goes premium or basic.

Since I read about this I've noticed that he really doesn't seem as comfortable and confident as he did at the beginning. That's a bad sign since it means he's probably going to lose the people that really like him as he tries to compromise. I have to say that he doesn't make me laugh the way he did originally. I'm not going to tune out, but I can see myself deleting recordings w/o watching them like I do now with the Daily Show.

Colbert was best with his Even Stephens segment on the Daily Show.
Colbert Report was great too.
Now, the writing isnt as good
The humor is lacking

No doubt that Colbert is not doing any better than Letterman, so why keep him on in that Late Night job.

With Alex Trebek going to retire from hosting Jeopardy, which is the most challenging of game shows, they need a successor. I think that Colbert could be successful at that job. And it is the same network.

Jeopardy is ABC. Colbert is CBS. What?

jeopardy is syndicated. it was originally network, but that was NBC and was over 40 years ago.

So to clarify, we have both Jeopardy and Colbert on ch 4 WBZ in Boston. So I had assumed it was the same network.

Did a little research by visiting the Jeopardy webpage. Sony Pictures is mentioned at the bottom. Perhaps they distribute Jeopardy in syndication. I did not find CBS, nor did I find ABC mentioned on the website.

Looking at Wikipedia they say...

The daily syndicated version of Jeopardy! is produced by Sony Pictures Television (previously known as Columbia TriStar Television, the successor company to original producer Merv Griffin Enterprises).[59] The copyright holder is Jeopardy Productions, which, like SPT, operates as a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment.[60] The rights to distribute the program on television in the United States are owned by CBS Television Distribution, which absorbed original distributor King World Productions in 2007.[59].

So if you are going tell me I'm wrong, do a little research first.

Colbert would be a very good fit for Jeopardy.

the fuck? CBS has the distribution rights to Jeapordy, but they broadcast it on ABC in 80% of the country?

who knew.

Been away from cable for a few years now. How is "late night" talk shows doing in general. I really can't believe that the genre can support so many shows. Really surprised someone hasn't broken out podcast-esque and done something internet based.

his balance of serious vs funny is way off, so he struggles to do either well

I agree, there is something very off with his little "skits" with guests. They seem too much like trying to pander to the YouTube or kiddy crowd but as an after-thought -- like the sleepover tent thing, laying down to watch the stars thing. And I'm getting tired of him reminding everyone that he's Catholic practically every show. He can sing and act but not exceptionally.

Corden is hit and miss with skits but he uses his guests' talents. For example, when Anna Kendrick is on, he gets her to properly sing. Other things are so stupid they're good like the nuzzle thing, throwing objects at Corden. I think Corden is a lot more comfortable with putting himself out there and has no shame -- lost count of how many times he's dressed up as a woman, gone shirtless, or made himself the joke. Honestly, Corden manages to balance sarcasm with his singing and acting background while being somewhat serious and funny.

I love the show and SC's amazing wit but I don't think a late night, general audience show is his speed. I'd love to see him replace Wilmore in the post daily show slot - if it wouldn't be such a huge comedown for him.

What was once open, brash, and not shy of calling people out is now completely PC... only ever joking about something that society agrees can be joked with. It's sad and pathetic - and yet it's no different than The Daily Show. I would rather drop by balls in boiling water before watching the stupid shit that comes out of Trevor Noah's mouth. Holy fuck I didn't know it was possible to be that bored watching a TV show based on a political humor.

The only thing I watch anymore is John Oliver (whom is CLEARLY the one who should have taken over daily show) and Bill Maher

Samantha Bee was decent in the first initial weeks.... Now she has gone down the Politically Correct rabbit hole with her last 4 episodes or so... Nothing funny, all stupidity.

Samantha Bee is basically the opposite of politically correct.

Unless by "politically correct" you mean "liberal" in which case she most definitely is.

I haven't watched more than a few minutes of "late night television" since Leno retired...again.

Can't stand Kimmel, HATE Fallon, and don't get why Colbert is popular at all...and Conan...don't get me fucking started on that POS ginger.

also, PSA, James Corden is not gay

I was surprised to learn this...

Wife and two kids... but you wouldn't know it by the acting gay stuff he does very often.

Samantha Bee, I've watched a few episodes. They were okay. Then the past few weeks, I tuned in but tuned her out.

I miss Craig Ferguson. What the hell kind of show has a pantomime horse and talking skeleton?

I miss Craig Kilborn
Me too. I seem to gravitate more to the late late nite shows going back to Tom Snyder.
Johnny's the exception there though.

Hmmm, around here Jeopardy is mostly aired on CBS stations.

I don't think that it is. He seems to be the most palatable of the late night hosts. However, Colbert's comedic style has been toned down for general broadcast audiences. I think that his late-night show also suffers from the shift to a full hour format. A half hour format would make the show more pointed and refined.

It will take some time for him to adapt his style to his current show. If they want to see an increase in the quality of the show sooner, then there is only one solution, to do the one thing they haven't so far - let Colbert be Colbert.

I loved Craig but I thought the Geoff thing was taken too far. Nonetheless, I'd rather have Geoff than no Craig at all.

Something tells me that you are simply unhappy with certain things that she is saying so you are simply writing her off to soothe your fragile, triggered sensibilities.

Oh come on, old man. Conan understands your generation better than most.

Here, this piece should bring back tears of nostalgia for you, Boomer. Enjoy:

That's so odd. I've only ever known Jeopardy to be on ABC, and this in 4 metro areas in 4 different states

So if you are going tell me I'm wrong, do a little research first.

Or, you know, since it's on ABC for the majority of networks across the country, this is what people understand. But I guess we'll take your advice: next time one deigns to challenge another's experience with unique and cryptic syndicated network entertainment, you can be sure that ATer will consult the vast internet databases before making the appropriate 2-10 word response. 😀
