Keeping Newsom.

If Republicans don't like the state or the governor they are free to move to another state.

US insane ways of just disregarding democracy and instituting what can best be described as the longest workaround to get to fascism is fascinating to me.

A representative democracy that has nothing to do with representing the people but rather land or weird rules is not a representative democracy at all, it's a plutocracy.

By the summary of the challenge I read, it makes no sense. Something about he's not on the list of choices. Why would he be? The choice is to remove and then who to replace with. Why would anyone vote to remove and then replace with the same person?

Once the vote to remove succeeds it becomes an open election. Except it's not an open election, one potential candidate has been barred from running for the open seat even though that candidate meets all the criteria to run for the open seat.

Because, a voter could otherwise vote not to replace him...yet vote FOR him. it actually makes sense. If you don't want him recalled...yet enough of a majority DO...then people SHOULD have the chance to vote FOR him.

I like that. Call out the farce for what it is.

They'll get the signatures, that's for sure, but you might end up with a similar situation: High engagement for Republicans, while Dems may not be highly motivated to recall the first Black governor of California. Depends a lot on PR and whether Elder does things that offend the sensibilities of liberals when in office. If he governs as a moderate and reaches across the isle, I think he'll be safe. If he governs like Black Trump, then he'll get recalled immediately.

Heh. I figure if Elder becomes Governor then Dems will recall him immediately because he won't have the votes to remain Governor. Circumstances being what they are, Dems won't even give him a chance.

Lol. People pretending that CA Dems would not immediately try to chuck Elder (who is a certifiable nut) are living in fantasy land.

The recall mechanics are dumb and and the Dem electorate not particularly engaged which has created the risk to Newsom. If Elder became gov that would absolutely change immediately.

Republicans would seize upon the win as a repudiation of Democratic rule in CA then get stomped into utter oblivion in either another recall or the 2022 state elections.

What, no conservative outcry against this flagrant excess of “cancel culture” and the millions of dollars of taxpayer money down the shitter!

INCCWARDI - It’s Not Cancel Culture When A Republican Does It.

This is petty grandstanding and opportunism, nothing more. It should fail, which just makes the cost all the more egregious. Might as well light a fucking bonfire with a couple hundred million in cash instead. He is up for re-election in 2022 in a normal election anyway, so this is even more wasteful if you consider it will be mere months between the recall and a real, scheduled election.

This whole fucking thing is the feeble California Republican party beating its little fists against the chest of the Democratic majority. It’s just a way to stay in the news and assure its voters/marks that they are not circling the drain.

Forgot I signed up for Ballot Trax, they just sent my ballot out today.

My ballot has been sent, but I am not in the state at the moment so I am not sure if it will get forwarded. Will be curious to see if it is.

Recalls are a two-edged sword.

First is the administration, petition, and special election, etc., are a hassle, and expense on taxpayers.

Second, there needs to be a method to remove the unfit from office before the end of their term, especially when no laws have been broken, but based solely on sheer incompetence. Too many politicians are totally incompetent and unfit to fill the office they hold, yet there is no criminal aspect to their incompetence, which would make their removal a mater for the courts.

Note: I don't have a dog in this fight, I have not been following CAL politics, as it has no impact on me. This is broad view that every elected office needs to understand they can and should be removed prior to the normal end of term if they are incompetent.

Colorado ballots are marked as do not forward. I'm sure there's a way to receive an actual absentee ballot but you'd need to request it beforehand.

I was repeatedly getting his commercials and he is indeed a nut. He’s virtually indistinguishable from anyone of the right wing nuts on this forum other than he’s black. But, as I’m sure has been pointed out, he doesn’t need to win by much to be the winner and since his is the only commercial I’ve seen, he seems like an automatic front runner.

I’ll probably mail in my ballot tomorrow.

Have you seen his commercials? He’s tucker Carlson in black face.

Yes, and make sure all your friends and family - at least the sane ones - do as well. The last thing we need is a nut job Trumpist as governor here.

John Cox, While starting his opening remarks at a debate among candidates opposing Newsom, he got served a subpoena live on camera over failing to pay his bills from the last election.

I salute the process server - Cox had clearly identified himself and couldn’t just leave, so it was a perfect moment to serve him.

A. I want to remove Babba Lewey.
B. I want to vote for Babba Lewey.

Makes no sense.

If Question A is 'No', any selection under Question B should be invalid.
If Question A is left blank, any selection under Question B should be invalid.

Flow Chart version:

Question A >> Yes >> Question B.
Question A >> No >> End.
Question A >> Blank >> End.

Yeah it's really really stupid the way they have designed their system. Someone could be Governor with like 10 percent of the vote if the field is large enough and sufficiently split. Basically 49.99% of voters could vote to keep him and he gets out and then someone wins with like 5% of the vote or something stupid like that. Democracy....
It's the only way a republican can become governor in California, recall a Democratic governor. It's a power grab pure and simple. And check it: Diane Feinstein is 88 years old. If she should be unable to complete her term and some Republican is governor due to this recall farce (that would probably be Larry Elder, a MAGA anti-vax, anti-mask mandate mouthpiece) they would appoint a Republican to replace Diane and the Senate would flip! Power grab!!!
