Is my dad a nut or what?

I don't have a good relationship with my father. He is selfish, annoying, and very controlling. He has been told by people he knows that if he keeps going the way he's going he will die alone and his own family will leave him. Im starting to see that this might be in fact be a possibility.

I wake up at 7 am to take a shower. I haven't shaved for 4-5 days and I usually shave in the shower. I notice that he hasnt left to work yet and is sleeping in his bed on the way to the washroom. I go in, start the shower, get in, and start doing my business. My showers typically last around 15 minutes, give or take. When I shave (which is once every 3 days) it takes me an extra 5 or so minutes to do my business.

I am in the shower shaving, and I usually let the water run on my neck/back during this because I find it relaxing (I suffer from back pains and a spine curvature disease). Half way through my shave I am all covered in shaving cream, the water stops running and just shuts off. I am like wtf is happening, are they doing repairs on the street or something. So the water shuts off and I am like wow wtf is going on out loud. All I hear is my dads response "ya wtf is going on I wonder, how many times did I tell you not to shower for so long".

At this stage I am fuckin pissed off like hell, and at the same time I hear my mom saying from downstairs, wtf happened to the water, Im in the middle of brushing my teeth. Not only am I rushing in the morning to get ready and not be late for work, my shower gets turned off in the middle. He goes and turns it back on after massive yelling from my mom, and I finish showering. During trying to finish my shower he keeps coming into the washroom and asking me if Im staying longer on purpose. I am like wtf are u talking about I have to reapply the shaving cream and finish now, not to mention wash myself etc.

After I come out this guy keeps yelling at me, telling me he pays 300 dollars in gas or some shit and its because of me. I told him he needs to get some help.

So what do you guys think? Is he seriously suffering from something here or am I in the wrong to shower? Also, FYI, he takes 1 bath a day (if not 2), bathtub full of water. He wastes more hot water and water then anyone in the house.

You take 20 minutes to shower and shave, yet you're in a hurry to get to work? Maybe it's time you found your own place or, I don't know.....help pay for utilities.

$300 in gas? Per quarter or what?

Either way, water isn't expensive, nor is heating it, at least with a reasonably efficient natural gas water heater. Electric heating can start to get pricey though.

Tell her not to run the water while she's brushing, there's no need for it. :p

Someone must be going through puberty!

One day you will do that same thing and suddenly and completely understand your dad.

Maybe, or perhaps not. He might one day do the same thing, and suddenly realize that he's become his father, and change that aspect of himself for the better.
I pay my own utility bills, and still take long showers. Based on my gas bill from August, heating water is definitely not a big expense, at least compared to heating the rest of the apartment. That can get expensive, especially in a building that apparently was built long before the concept of insulation was devised by humans.

Seriously. I didn't get along with my mom, so I studied, passed my CCNA at 17 and moved the hell out six weeks after I turned 18. But your going to need a stable well paying job and money in the bank to move out son. Until you have those two things i would do what your parents say.

Shave at the sink so you spend less time in the shower.

P.S. - Maybe he hates you because he knows he isn't your biological father.

I usually shave in the shower and can be in and out in about 10 minutes, tops. That being said, unless he's preventing other people from showering in the morning I really do not see a problem with a long morning shower.

If there is a problem, his dad needs to act like an adult and bring it up - not turn the water off and pester him about it. The OP should confront his father and tell him that if he has a problem with his showering habits, the appropriate time and place to bring it up is during a discussion, not at 7 am.

WTF does it usually take you 15 min in the shower?

5-7 min tops is all it should take. I'd be pissed too if you were using up all the hot water and I still had to take a shower. Use some consideration, son.

15 - 20 minutes does seem like a long time to shower. Don't get me wrong, I think your dad is an a-hole for turning off the water, but he may have a point about saving water/gas that you can consider. It takes me 7-8 minutes to shower in the morning, and then I shave over the sink.

You can do whatever you want when it is your own home, but when you are living under his roof, you will have to put up with his crap or find a way to compromise.

Crazy stuff.

Water Heating is such a non-expense it's not even funny.

Try having a 100 gallons of Oil a month for home heating. That's expensive.

Tell him to quit his bi***'in

Oh and some of you need to learn to relax in the shower, in our house we take 15-25 minute showers =p

15 min is ok for women, but anything over 10 for a dude is abnormal unless they are fapping

Or ask him how much the water costs per month, then give him $0.50 every time you shower

In some houses, if people take 20 minutes showers, then the hot water runs out after a shower or two. For all we know, the dad is tired of taking cold showers because his son uses all the hot water.
