Where did you hear the reports that Saudi Arabia is becoming Westernized? In Iran they too have stores such as Victoria Secret. They even sell mini skirts at most stores. The wives are allowed to please their husbands. Does this mean they are becoming westernized? By no means can they wear that stuff outside in public and the same goes for the people of Saudi Arabia. You can get rid of Islamic Law governments and even be a free M.E that does not mean you can change the culture. Even if Iran is free by no means will Iran ever be like the West. There will always be people who question why you are holding a woman's hand or why a woman is wearing such revealing clothes. The Shah of Iran didn't impose any religious laws on his people yet the culture did not allow my dad to freely walk in the streets holding some girl's hand. There were parts of Iran where you could do that freely, but there are also parts where people will chase you and kick your ass.
Even when Saddam was ruling Iraq and let women do what they wanted, I am sure there were many areas in Iraq where women were treated like dogs if they didn't dress modestly. Go outside Baghdad and Tehran and you will face problems. The more populated areas seem to be the more educated and more liberal.
The people of Iran speak English not to be like the West, but to escape their country. The people want a change, but how will they get a change? Iranians don't want a civil war. Even going back to the Shah people demanded a change and things were getting very out of hand. The Shah could have stayed and fought and he did have a large backing to help him stay in power. He fled because he didn't want to kill any Iranians (He's still an Ahole though). When my girlfriend went to Iran the first thing her cousins told her to do was to speak to them in English and describe the U.S (mainly the schools/jobs) "Is everything true like the way we see on the satellite stations coming from California". Their goal is not to come to the West and lose their culture. Iranians have a very deep culture that will forever stay with them. They have no economic freedoms in Iran and they want their freedom. Everything in Iran is underground. Underground beer (they make their own), underground parties, underground clubs. Etc. Why live underground for the rest of your life?
There are plenty of schools in Saudi Arabia that are not financed by the government. Those schools can teach what they want. There are lots of reports out where people have interviewed the students at those schools and in many cases they have expressed a deep hate for the West because of what they learned. This is even known to happen in the public sector of the school system where Saudi schools teach to "hate the Jews". The government of Saudi Arabia is actually better than the people IMO. The Royal Pigs have lost touch with the people of Saudi Arabia and that is why the streets are turning into everyday battles. Maybe this is a small percent of the population, I don't know. But this small percent seems to connect more to the people than the royal family.
This is a country that does not allow women to drive. Are they even allowed to get jobs? This is a country that let children burn in a fire because men were not allowed to enter the school. I think this goes beyond "more" religious and actually turns into dangerous.
