Shouldn't this be, I don't know, your parents' decision and not yours?

my parents don't play the 'real' parental role, my dad is often not home until 8-10pm. and my mom is a nut case...been to the psych ward a few times(suicide, driving on the wrong side of the road , stealing from target, hanging out with my sisters friends without her, buying cigarettes for minors, and some other stupid crap I never even do)...like I said another story.

Playing the parental role would be properly educating them about the dangers of MySpace and other social networks, and the implications of releasing private information on the internet.

Just admit that you get off on controlling others and be done with it.

I thought it was hilarious at first, but now the fact they are getting pissed makes me realize that they think there is only one website on the internet to go on. My sister hasnt touched the computer since I blocked it. Isn't it not interesting that she is totally off it and getting some sleep, making it to school on time? It reminds me when my parents tried to quit smoking, how bitchy they got...I am just trying to unhook them from myspace.

So you leave your brother and sister uneducated about the dangers of social communities on the internet and continute to block the page.

So now what happens? They go on it at their friends house or at the library, and arrange a meeting with a hot "16 year old" boy or girl, and get abducted. Possibly beaten, raped, and/or killed. But hey! At least you blocked MySpace, right Mr. Mom

You're lucky your siblings aren't a bit more intelligent, because I can guarantee when I was their age and if a sibling pulled something like this with me, your computer would've suddenly stopped working after a capacitor would've been partially broken off, but looking functional. That's also making the rather large leap that I wouldn't have had the knowledge to circumvent the MAC filter.

Hell, they don't even have to be that intelligent to do this. They should take your router and throw it in the trash.

well, there goes there precious internet and my dad yelping about how he pays for the internet and it doesn't work. +1 beaten sibling...

So that they have no internet at all?

If he says mySpace is the only page they're visiting and they can't visit that, then they basically have no internet, correct?

A little water during the middle of the night works fine too. Much harder to place blame there.

Due to his over zelous controling personality he probally won't ever get a BF, isn't that enough revenge?

good use of the word zelous...or maybe you meant zealous? ;)

agreed...ViviTheMage is ghey... now that your little sister is getting out of the house more, you just have to worry that she might be meeting some trailer trash in some bar... or taking up smoking crack... spending all her lunch money on drugs... and turning tricks on the side for a joint...

True story... happend to my best friends little sister... he had to turn the Myspace back on. Then she just stopped going out and doing drugs...

But I guess being the age of 20, all that internet power is pretty intoxicating... but, however, at the end of the day, ViviTheMage is just a nerd that lives in his mom's basement spending most of his time pestering his little brother and sister... My advice to ViviTheMage is to grow up and get a life.

Mr. Mom, don't you think you and your brother should get off your asses and get outside instead of gaming?

pretty big assumption for a black man avatar, let alone 213 posts...lurker with no balls? or one of those 'I have a life so I don't get on the internet often bunch?'. You can say what you want about me, but asking what my college buddies think and friends I have known since elementary school agree that it should be blocked.

and for your little goatsx comment, goatsx has never been a popular sport.

Reminds me of when I was a dick preteen and blocked the music video channel on our TV so my sister couldn't watch it. I was a dick then, and you're being a dick now.

why do the votes say otherwise?

maybe that percentage will change, but the posts generally are pretty negative around here.

Because most of ATOT are dicks. Not to mention they'd vote for anything anti-MySpace (normally, myself included).

My friend did it to his sisters...they complained it didn't work. They now go to their friend's house to do that - however when they are at home they do more productive things...

although if your siblings want to waste time, they'll waste time no matter what :p

I despise myspace whores. Especially the ones that browse myspace during lecture or in a computer lab or during group projects...

they vote for the block, yet show the negative. It's usually how things go around here.

So, I have been looking for a means to block myspace for sh!ts and giggles...but ever since I have done it my little brother (14)is PMSing saying unblock it, unblock it.. I just say no.

My little sister (16) got out of the house (finally, instead of staying up til 3-4am on myspace) and now that she finaly knows it was me that blocked it (every time she asked I gave her bs excuses like, no idea it works for me...because I would show her...secret is I blocked it to her and my brothers MAC address).

I don't use myspace, I never ever go on it, I have no reason to. I have much better things to do, neffing on ATOT while at work, or doing homework for class.

Now my sister is threatening to take some of my cr@p (very juvenile I say), but I wont. I am 20, living at home because I figured it would be cheaper to go to the community college near by instead of paying up the ass for a University...right now. I am already accepted to the U of M - Twin Cities, but I don't want to go just yet, because it is so much more. Either way she pulled the " you should be out of the house, you are 20!", but I am living here to save up money for when I do move out when I go to the U.

Am I in the right to block myspace? I don't want them wasting there d@mn lives on it, and getting molested by some pedophiles.

My mom thinks I am playing god, but then again she is psycho... whole other story that ATOT doesn't need to hear.

BTW I LOVE DD-WRT FIRMWARE :)

EDIT : added swear word filter for shortylickens...
EDIT: I added a simple poll for some feedback :).

you sound about 12... im suprised you arent on myspace

Why do you think you know what is best for your siblings?
You got picked on a lot in school. I feel bad for you.
Don't get bitter that your brother and sister are at least 15x cooler than you were in high school.
Make toast.

depends. if your bro and sis see you in a parental role then maybe it is ok.

but if the parents pay for the internet and your bro and sis dont see you as a parental figure then you are just being a PITA loser. I think you may be jealous that they socialize and maybe you don't?

as pointed out before, socializing is essential at their ages, don't mess with that even if you think myspace sucks.
