Well, i own a turbo charged Honda 1100CBR XX, you might think that it is a heavy looking and fast bike, but you know what, it sounds like an overpowered hair drier when you use the standard issue, well, i did not want that, so i just cut the exhaust in half and put on a second expansion chamber, not only did it make the bike sound like a drag bike, it made it act like a drag bike as well... I have never done ANYTHING to any bike that made that much difference, and i have don a lot of things to a lot of bikes in my days...

Long live the bikes that do not sound like over powered hair driers!

SLUGGO:

>People who tool around cruising are one thing, placing their shift points at relatively low->medium RPMs. Morons who consider every single traffic light as their personal proving ground for >their ego as they probe the redline through the first 4 gears as they leave a trail of pounding >eardrums and shattered nerves in their wake, however are a different story.

Sluggo You realize on most modern jap bikes, redlining in the first four gears (well, 4th), would put you well over 130-140 mph?

Done it a few times on mine, but kind hard to do that kind of speed in the metro area :)

I personally have no problems with those that like harleys... I can't stand drag pipes on public streets though (as much as I cant stand these super loud exhausts on the 4 cyl inline 'rice burner' bikes). My first bike sounded like a bee having an orgasm when riding it at highway speeds. My GPZ is completely stock.. at 90+, there is no exhaust noise, just wind noise.

My only other grip with harleys is their cornering ability.. there is just not enough clearance to corner well on those things. They make excellent cadillacs on teh highway though.

Yeah, I can relate the physical laws of HP/weight ratio and figure that you would be a little over the posted speed limit doing that. :) You know the point I was trying to make.

Sluggo,

Absolutely... I like the sound of a high reving engine, not the exhaust noise it produces..

Anyone who says Harley's suck, hasn't ridden one. As for the plastic disposible jap crap bikes you can keep them, I haven't seen a one of them around from the 50's yet. The only decent sport bikes are made by the Italians!

As a matter of fact all the pencil necked computer geeks I know, where geeky Intel and AMD t-shirts like they are some f@#*ing badge of honor. I have a 2001 Sportster and love it, and no I am not over 40. I have the best of both worlds, fun to ride and American Made!

In my experience, most bikers are the epitimy of what a good american should be. Most have fought for the country or served in it's armed forces at one point. Almost all hold POW/MIA/Veteran's in the utmost of respect, and ALL real bikers are really cool people to hang out and talk with. Theres no bullcrap with them, no stupid "well, he has a $3,00 bike, so we don't like him" looking down on people. Just usually all-around decent people, if rough on the edges.

I kinda am getting married into a biker family it seems. I'll tell you that you havn't been through ANYTHING until you get to go home with your GF in front of some 250lb built guy with big tattoo's all around who you really don't know, and tell him he's going to be a grandfather. Turned out to be one of the best friends I have, in terms of making sure I have what I need to survive.

Anyways, I respect a group of bikers rolling down the highway a HELL of a lot more than some idiot yacking on a cell phone in his $70,000 SUV.

*shrug*

Phil21, you have been watching waaay to many biker movies... Don't glorify the actions of the MC subculture that includes drug pushing, killings, prostitution and a whole bunch of other illegal acts...

The truth is, most people feel no respect at all for the bikers riding down the street, they feel fear...

God I hate those things, I live on a 4 lane road, and I swear every night at 3 when I want to sleep some idiot with his damn motorcycle, or ricer, or friggin' dual 12" subs goes driving by. One of these days I''m going to string a thin steel cable at head/chest level across the road.

PCR - If you feel fear, then you have issues.

Even the "bad" bikers (who give the rest the "bad" name. har har), seem to hold respect in it's utmost. If you don't screw with them, they won't screw with you. You can't say the same for ghetto gangs, they screw with everyone just because they can.

Not that I'm justfying any bad actions, I'm just saying being afraid of a group of bikers because of what the movies say, is also stupid. You need to retain objectivity no matter what.

So just let them supply our young ones with drugs... don't mess with them about that, they are already screwing with you, you want to put up a fight or do you choose not to out of "respect"?

Man, you need a reality check and a new set of role models... Ghetto gang bangers, biker gangs, if they are into drugs or selling drugs, then they should just be wiped out...

Do i have issues because i feel fear when a biker confronts me? Usually i will just kick his ass, if he does not have a gun or a big blade... Just understand this, if they are getting a bit drunk and one of them decides that you are too ugly for their taste, you will end up in a hospital...

There is nothing "nice" or "respectful" about these illegal groups, glorifying them just proves your ignorance...

Ditto what JohnnyKnox said -

Half the reason for the loud exhausts on bikes is to keep the riders from getting KILLED.

Yes you all notice them coming up behind you/next to you because the loud exhaust gets your attention. That's a good thing when you're a riding a 300 lb bike next to a 5000 lb SUV. I agree they can be a bit obnoxious, but if I owned one - I'd do it too. It can be VERY easy to overlook a guy on a motorcycle when driving, and it's just one way to help them protect themselves.

Just because you ride a Harley doesn't mean you are in a biker gang that pushes drugs and the like, in fact, most Harley riders are in bike groups that do a lot of good, has any of you heard of A.B.A.T.E.? Every year they ride to raise money to buy kids wheel chairs, hmmm...sounds like a bad deed to me. What is shown in the movies is as reliable as it has always been. I ride and I am way against drugs. Also, I am a union member and many of my union buddies ride Harleys and are God fearing Americans who believe in buying American. Next time you wonder why you don't have a job in America, look outside at your import car and realize that hey, it is my own fault!

God Bless America and Unions!!!
