Must be the warm weather setting in, but I am damn tired of hearing it. And I am also assuming that the only throttle position available on a Harley is FULL OPEN.

To be fair and hate lots of people equally, I am also damn tired of bumblebee fart pipes, and thumping car stereos.

My friend/co-worker has a Honda Shadow Deluxe 1100 and that one is LOUD. My bike is nothing compared to when he rev's it up.
Oh god.. it sounds beautiful.. mind you its all stock.

I dont mind loud harleys its one way of letting other caged drivers know your there. I have nothing against it as a fellow biker.

my dad has a harley, when i borrow it and ride around i feel like a celebrity. people wave and smile. his bike is really tricked out too. you dont get that with any other kind of transportation.

I find this REALLY irritating. Those things are just ear-splitting, and I bet those folks who like them (e.g., Tiger) would sing a pretty different tune if the exact same level of ambient noise were coming from a Chevy Cavalier with tiny gold rims pushed way out of the car's body, booming bass-heavy rap. I personally find the Harleys the more annoying of the two, as somehow that on-and-off, flatulent noise combined with its devastating volume, really sounds like it will damage hearing even in fairly short doses.

That's not even completely confirmed. The rumor is, Porsche and Harley are co-developing a watercooled v-twin which will power Harley's in the future. Harley will still manufacture the engine though. Supposedly the engine will produce 135hp stock.

I don't do the open drag pipe thing anymore (they actually cost horsepower vs the quieter stock crossover system with gutted mufflers) but don't mind those who do. Car drivers really don't look for motorcycles, and I've seen the difference louder pipes make over the years. Idiots who gun their motors without purpose do annoy me.
Poser pseudo-bikers are hurl-inducing, and real bikers understand that the company that builds the machines they love is not necessarily their friend. (Insert rant about the deterioration of the bike culture as yuppies drove the prices through the roof while turning scoots into a fashion accessory.)

mackstann, what about all those dead heads that followed the Dead around. They wore tshirts, long hair, whatever else went along with it. It's what they chose to do with their life. The Dead wasn't just a band, it was a way of life for those people.Harley-Davidson is not just a bike manufacturer, it _is_ a way of life for some people.

The sound of a Harley with open pipes is music to my ears. I always turn my head an look when I hear one. Spectacular sound that no other bike/engine can come close to touching. I've never owned a bike, only ridden on one once or twice, but I appreciate them for what they are.

Ya'll do realize that a huge part of Porsche's annual income is from the consulting business, right? Helping out other companies to make their engine better? Porsche actually did some consulting work on the intake of the Ford Contour. I've seen cool pics of the prototype they developed. It was too big/expensive/complicated to be mass produced, but some of their work did make it into the final design. Just beacuse Porsche is consulted for the design doesn't make it a Porsche engine..
