Is it just me, or is debating the faults of the Transformers plot just plain retarded?

fixed that for ya.

When the cartoon series was on, my kids watched it occasionally, and I thought it was tremendously stupid back then. IMO, the concept hasn't gotten any better by bringing it to the big screen...

Oh come on, just admit that you're still steamed over that whole "War of the Worlds" hoax that had you hiding in the bomb shelter for a week.

It's based off a cartoon which they have to remain somewhat faithful to. What did you expect?

It was a brainless action movie designed to bring out feelings of nostalgia in the older folks, why do you care about the plot?

yeah it's more on the fiction side than a sci-fi side. Somewhere in between, maybe.

Actually, it was an Australian accent. They hired an Aussie who couldn't speak in any voice other than her own. I've seen plenty of English actors do US accents, and US actors do English accents, but the first time she opened her mouth, I cringed, and thought, in no particular order:

-Why would the US DoD hire an Aussie chick right out of Uni? Wait... She's supposed to be an American!?
-Do we really sound like that?
-Man, right now I'm ashamed to be Australian.

Because if movies were all true to life, plots would go like this:

At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was out of the question.

oh man i LOVE that read.

At least they didn't make a Go-Bots movie.
They would spend half the film winding themselves up.
Oh, and it would suck since they all transformed the same.

I was wondering if anyone would pick that up. It took me three weeks of hangin' out with Aussies before I could easily tell the difference.

Hollywood, in general, thinks their audiences don't have a brain when watching their films. Hollywood actually means "murdering books" in latin.

You mean stupid like a magic man from another planet who is impervious to physics on earth and disguises himself with a simple pair of black rimmed glasses stupid? Or bitten by a spider and given magic powers stupid? Or maybe guy exposed to gamma rays that can change into a superhuman monster whenever he gets angry enough stupid?
