The more I consider this the more I'm considering doing it if extreme tailgating doesn't work. I don't have an SUV so I'm not as noticeable though.

No, and neither is tailgating them. Flash your lights a few times. If that doesn't work, pass them on the right.

Why not just pass them on the right an be on your merry way?

I find myself doing it sometimes but tailgating is an awesome way to lose a lawsuit if they stop unexpectedly.

My thinking is that these folks don't know how to drive, so I want them behind me.

If they can't get the message from the line forming behind them and the flashing lights, then they are also stupid and inattentive, so I really want them behind me.

That's what the pull to flash high beams function is for...

"Extreme tailgating" is stupid. Flash high beams, hang to the left a little bit at a reasonable distance so you're pretty obvious out the mirrors. Give them a moment, and if they won't move, just pass on the right.

I'm envisioning highway speeds here, and I'm not even sure you would hear a horn depending upon road noise, radio level, etc.

Because they'll just keep doing it over and over again, the more honks they'll get maybe they'll realize oh shit i shouldn't be going so slow on the left lane.

If they are driving slow in the fast lane they probably aren't the type of person that's going to learn.

I do the opposite. I honk at people that pass going more than a few miles per hpur over the limit.

For tailgaters, honkers, light flashers, etc I will slow down in front of them.

I count to five, flash a few times, if they don't move over, I just go around on the right. No need to raise blood pressure or force an accident just because someone is inconsiderate. I'll let the bubbas in lifted trucks do that (lol saw one crash yesterday).

Outback. Even in my STi I wouldn't go more than 1-2mph over.

Nothing wrong with going the speed limit. Just be considerate of the people wanting to go a little faster and don't sit in the fast lane. If there is one lane then it sucks for the people behind.

I think op is talking more people that don't even do the speed limit.

I don't purposely sit in it, but if I am going just a bit faster than someone else it may take a minute for me to get by them. I won't tolerate impatient people behind me that want to flash or tailgate before I have a chance to get back over.

If you are actually passing a car, even if slowly, then I will just wait for you to clear...I will give you much more leeway.

This.

But I don't drive in the left lane these days. If you want to be a jackass and ride my ass for miles when there's ample opportunity to pass, then I'll just slow down even more.

We're working on a rear MPG display for the Insight. I think it would be pretty cool to let people know why I'm going 55MPH - I think most people would be pretty understanding if they saw 85MPG. Otherwise they just think you're an idiot, or stoned. 😀

They should sell these. I would love one for the hemi. When I kick it to pass you, you can clearly read the single digit as I go by. 😛

I would be amused, haha.

The only time the Insight is capable of single digit MPG is in 1st gear with it floored. If you lift up a little at ~4000RPM in 1st, MPG will still be ~10. 😛
