Never understood why Americans are so childish when driving. If there is a faster car behind you, move over and let them by. Doesn't matter if you're going +10, if you see someone coming +20, let them go by.

I've always enjoyed renting cars and driving in Europe for this reason - people are more aware of what's going on around them and adhere to the rule above, no feelings hurt. <edit> Also when people pass, they pass decisively - I hate seeing drivers do a +2mph pass that takes a minute </edit>

But of course here in the U S of A, you can't have anyone tread on you.

Ever been stuck in the fast lane by some douchebag that decides to speed up when you're passing him? Seems to happen more times than it should. You can either speed up to 15+mph over the limit or just slow down and move back into the right lane.

I've been in this situation before with a line of people behind me. I have slowed down before, but I'll always put my turn signal on to show I'm trying to get back over to the right lane.

As opposed to being some dipshit left lane rider that slows down just to be an asshole.

No one can speed up to keep me from passing, so no, it doesn't happen ;)

That's where more power comes in handy...that power a lot of people say no one ever needs...

It's not that I can't pass them. I would rather avoid the risk of getting a ticket. The lead car in the fast lane going 15+ over is a guaranteed ticket.

Unless I know there's no speed traps in the immediate area. Then all bets are off.

I try to avoid passing on the right, but when I am forced (person in front doing brake checks when I am not tail gating, slowing down then speeding up, etc).

After I have dipped my lights a few times, I will get a couple honks (quick ones not long drawn out spazs) then pass. I will usually motion with my thumb for them to move right and put my right blinker on.

Major asshats get different antics.

Well, depends on the car. If you have the proper car, people won't even attempt those shenanigans.

Yeah, it seems nobody hears my horn. I want a truck horn.

Its that nobody cares. truck horns don't do shit either. Either way, if you can pass on right or left, then just do it, but people need to stop being in such a hurry, speed limit or slower, just simply leave sooner and not worry about it.

that's why old people driver slower, their wise enough to leave sooner and flat out don't give a crap about others necessity to bum rush.

I pass them on the right. Then as I go by I flip them off then cut them off going back into their lane.

Too bad the "Pit maneuver" isn't legal for us to use on these idiots, that would be fun.

People who say 'just pass me' are real ignorant assholes. There. I said it.

For the rest of us people who know how to share the road, if you're in the left lane being passed on the right and think its no big deal, here's the problem:

You're causing people to change lanes into faster traffic and causing said people to assume you're not going to get over between now and the time a successful lane change is executed.

So, stop being assholes and get the fuck out of the left lane.

Oh and, while I'm at it.

If you're the asshole that thinks tailgating someone while putting half your car over the yellow line is a great way to intimidate the person in front of you, I've got news for you: It's also a GREAT fucking way to piss the person off behind you that happens to be on the receiving end of all the stones and debris that you are kicking up.

On the other hand... I've been going on my merry way in the left-hand lane at 5-10mph over the limit, casually passing cars when a pile of other cars going 15+ over approaches. I put on my right turn signal to try and get over to the right lane and let them by, but before I can safely change lanes they all start passing me on the right. Makes zero sense.

I concur. You should have been paying more attention and gotten over sooner.

Right, and cut off whomever I was passing at the time. That's a good, safe thing to do when driving.

Err, if getting in the right lane would cut off whoever you were passing, how does the person coming up behind you get over without running through the person you were passing? :p

The person passing me on the right cuts off the person in the right-hand lane, badly.

Personally, if I'm in the left lane and someone comes up behind me, I speed up and get out of their way, asap. Just like I would appreciate it if people did for me.

1. I will not move to the right if my speed is at speed limit or higher.
2. I will find a way to piss you off badly if you try to tailgate me.
3. Y U MAD NOW? Go pound sand, douchebag!

You're an inconsiderate driver, and part of the problem. Slower traffic keep right, passing lane is left.
