why do you guys keep calling the passing lane the fast lane? there is no fast lane. the speed limit applies across all available lanes.

that said, i rarely go just the speed limit. if people arent going at least 5 over, ill be passing them. i dont do the tail gating/ light flashing/ horn honking thing when some douche decides to sit in the passing lane... not passing. tailgating me while im passing in the left lane (yes, if im there im passing someone, wait your fucking turn) will not get me to go faster, it will make me take my time passing, knowing your brain is frying in your head waiting on me. life is too damn short to be an asshole all the time, back the fuck off and let other people drive as well.

It's called the fast lane because drivers in Edmonton are god damn retards who never go the speed limit. If the speed limit is 60km/h, I'm always stuck because assholes going 50km/h. On the big major ass highway running through the city, the posted limit is 90k and people rarely go over 70.
Fast lane = going the speed limit lane.
All the other lanes = smoke PCP and drive under the speed limit lanes

So instead you'll be the asshole driving too slow in the passing lane while others are trying to get by? At least you didn't say you slow down just to spite them.

my neighborhood is like that too. always frustrating when i get in the area of my house, people doing 32 in a 40. on the freeways tho, i can do 5-8 over the limit and pretty much everyone is passing me. especially since they got the cameras taken down.

no, ill be the asshole in front of you, still passing cars, going over the speed limit, but maybe not as quickly as you want to. if im passing a fucking car, fuck off and wait your damn turn, youre not impressing anyone or really getting anywhere much slower if you slow down from 25 over the limit for a couple seconds. its the lack of courtesy that pisses me off. you think the people going "slower" than you are inconsiderate, but its really YOU that are the inconsiderate assholes, expecting everyone to drop off the face of the earth just so you can regally pass them. fuck that. they are within the law, they arent going under the speed limit, and they are actually passing cars. have an ounce of patience.

and i hate people that slow down just to be a dick. i dont do that.

I usually just rear end them in my old rusted truck and knock them out of the way...

hehe i had a friend that always said that, he ended up doing it to a minivan for real and flipped his truck.

and while im talking real aggressive about how i feel on this subject, im very good at gauging how fast people are coming up behind me. if i see someone going faster than i am in the left lane, ill wait for them to pass before i pass. its all about the courtesy. im in no hurry, i get paid for travel time.

Trust me. They would still merge at 45. 50 if you're lucky. We have 65mph freeways here and a 70mph turnpike. Most have long on ramps and people still can't seem to get up to the speed limit. Average merge speed here is probably 50-55

Ugh. Pet peeve to the max.

Exactly.

Left lane is for passing.
Exceeding posting speed limits are against the law.
Using the left lane - not so clear http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/right.html
If someone is in the left lane doing exactly the speed limit you have no argument (for passing) since you would have to break the law to pass.

In the case that they are driving under the posted limit in the "passing lane"
1. Flash to pass
2. Flash to pass while left turn signal is flashing

If they do not move over:
No honking
No fingers
No temper tantrums

Pull back into the normal lane and wait it out. An opportunity to pass will eventually come up.

I call this move "pulling a Shawn":
Drive the speed limit in any lane. If I pass you while I'm in the right lane, that's because you're a retard. I always drive the speed limit and I always seem to pass people while I'm in the right lane.

In almost all states the three rules that trump everything are:

1) slower traffic keep right.
2) do not use the leftmost lane expect to pass
3) it is illegal to impede someone behind you unless you cannot yield to them.

IMO it's not justifiable to honk someone in the left lane unless they are not passing... although I would certainly be aggravated if they were doing the speed limit or less.

Yes. If you are in the left lane and people are stacking up behind you/passing you on the right, fucking MOVE OVER.

Around town I'm all about the speed limit but once in 40 and over zones I'm a little loose with my interpretation.
However on a 3 lane highway I tend to drive speed limit or close in the rightmost lane, flow of traffic in the middle lane and I only use the left for passing (will not post typical passing speeds but lets just say I pass with authority).
Drives my wife crazy at times "Would you pick a lane!!!"
I did pick a lane...I also picked a speed. In order to maintain my speed in my lane of choice I need to get around those who have also picked my lane but have picked a slower speed.

I've found that the best method is (without tailgating) is to keep left blinker on when passing car in front and then if there is someone blocking flash to pass (with blinker still going).
Most people get the point.
If they dont with that then they are moving over unless you have lights and siren.

People...if left lane hoggers are truly a concern....
Buy a crown victoria.
There cheap (used)
Decent mpg on the highway
People move right the hellover without you having to do a thing.

in most states ive bothered to read the law, there is a specific amount of people behind you before it is considered impeding. in az it is 5 cars behind you, unless they changed it from when i was in high school. cop saw me stopped in the middle of a back street and gave me a ticket for impeding traffic, even tho there was no other traffic on that street. he came up behind and i pulled to the right, he stopped and gave me a ticket. judge reminded him that there would have had to be 5 people waiting behind me for the ticket to be valid and tossed it.

also, most every one of the laws are worded as "normal speed of traffic" instead of mentioning local speed limits, which makes it variable. i average traffic is going 75 in a 55, then thats what you follow. that one douche doing 95 doesnt get to push past people that are passing others already at 78.

I see you've never driven in Oklahoma. People just slower down to 5 under when they see a cop and "might" move over once the cop is tailgating them.
